Laurel Holem Obituary

Laurel Marie Holem, 62, of Otterville, began her new adventure with God on April 27, 2011.

She was born February 4, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of James Stanton and Carolyn Marie Ahrens Geer. On December 10, 1976, in Otterville, she was married to Robert L. Laurel was the secretary to the principal at Otterville School for 27 years. Her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren, gardening, painting, nature, especially frogs, and providing a caring hand for all children in the Otterville area. She was a member of American Legion Post 84 Auxiliary, Sacred Heart Church and a past member of the Otterville Booster Club.

Laurel and her husband have three sons, Robbie W. Holem, and his wife, Shelbie, of Belton, MO, Obie W. Holem, and his wife, Lori, of Smithton, MO, and Chris L. Holem, and his fiancé, Elizabeth Kilby, of Smithton, MO; five grandchildren, Kristofer W.D. Kostopolus, Dylan M. Limpic, Dylanie G. Limpic, Robi H.M. Holem and Trey J. Holem; a brother, Rick Geer, of Sedalia; two sisters, JoAnn Morton, and her husband, Ted, of Smithton, and Mary Ellen Hunt, of Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her stepfather, Milton D. Overstreet.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Otterville School gymnasium, with the Rev. Glenn Holem officiating.

Casket bearers will be Chad Raggsdale, Jeff McIntyre, Brian Aggeler, Rob Young, Terry Yokeley and Dick Ailor.

Honorary bearers will be Diedrick Kahrs, Bill Betteridge, Richard Best, Bob Hardey and Jim Halgren.

As a teenager, we called her "Lolly". She was always so nice to us younger folk! She dated my brother is how I got to know her. Then fast forward 30 some years later, and we met as adults as I was doing staff development for the state. I stopped by Otterville schools, and there she was. We had great visits in the months ahead. I did not know she was sick. However now I have gotten to know her son Obe, and he reminds me of her with his caring and kind ways. What a great young man! She would be so proud. So Lolly, even though our time was brief, it has made a lasting impact.
