Marvin Ehlers Obituary

Marvin A. Ehlers, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born on December 10, 1932, in Stover, MO, a son of Herman and Caroline (Nottmier) Ehlers.

On November 9, 1952, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Beulah Mae Brockman, who survives of the home.

He was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sedalia. He served on the board of Elders, Board of Christian Education and various other boards. He was called upon many times to do electrical jobs at the church and school.

Marvin worked at Central Missouri Electric Coop for 38 years, retiring in 1994 as a line superintendent. He served his country honorably in the Korean War. He retained the rank of Corporal. He had the pleasure of taking the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

He visited all the war memorials, this was a very special time for him. His travel buddy was Norman Childs.

He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He fondly remembered coaching baseball for his son Ron, and enjoyed taking his son-in-law and grandsons turkey hunting and deer hunting.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Donna Smith and her special friend Herman Fortman of Sedalia, Karen Wooster and her fiancé Matt Mitcham of Tampa, FL, Debra Wenig and her husband Robert of Green Ridge; a son, Ron Ehlers and his wife Patti of Sedalia; a sister, Delores Dieckman of Cole Camp; five grandchildren, Joseph, Adam, Megan, David and Jessica and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Norbert Ehlers, and a grandson, Michael Snyder.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sedalia, with Pastor Ken Tatkenhorst and Pastor Jeremy Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia with full military honors by VFW Post 2591.

The family will receive friends from one hour prior to service.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to American Heart Association or St Paul's Lutheran Church, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.

The last time I saw Marvin he dropped by the office and to tell us all about the Honor Flight. When he retired, Beulah called in and requested a song. The DJ suggested "Take This Job and Shove It." She said, "Oh, don't play that! He loves his job." Marvin was a terrific person and will be missed by his former co-workers. Much sympathy to the family.

Debbie, Dino and the family of Marvin Elhers we express our condolences to all. We know you will miss his sense of humor greatly. We still chuckle at the times we remember him describing how he
dove head first into the REA truck window as our dog did not recognize Marvin with a tool belt on when Marvin made a trip to check on the house power where we lived.
