Scott Sheldon Peck, 61, of Ionia, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023, at home with his family. He was born March 23, 1961, in Plentywood, Montana, son of Earl and Barbara (Stratton) Peck.
At the age of two, Scott moved with his family to the Ionia area. He was baptized August 20, 1961, at Brandon Methodist Church in Windsor and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp on March 23, 1975. He attended Benton Co. R-1 through the fourth grade, then the Lutheran School from fifth to eighth grade, and graduated from Cole Camp High School in 1979. While in high school, he was a member of the Cole Camp Singers under the direction of Mrs. Cordes. He was also a member of 4-H, where he showed horses.
After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. Scott served for fifteen years and achieved the rank of Sargent First Class E7. His tours included Desert Storm, Germany, and Fort Hood stateside. Upon honorable discharge from the Army, he joined the Plumbers Local #8 and worked several years as a journeyman plumber. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
On April 15, 2000, in Kansas City, he married Kelly Taylor. Scott enjoyed collecting handguns, hunting, and fishing. He was an avid reader with an interest in westerns and history.
Surviving are his wife, Kelly Peck of the home; his parents, Earl and Barbara Peck of Ionia; three children, Robert Peck and Rose of Belton, Daniel Peck and Sierah of Garden City, and Sara Hanrahan-Peck of Columbia; six grandchildren; two sisters, Dr. Marlys Peck of Sedalia and Lara Rutledge and Tommy of Peculiar; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sheldon and Francis Peck and Marshall and Vira Stratton, four uncles, Robert Stratton, Jr., Bill Stratton, Neal Peck, and Dale Peck, and an aunt, Elaine Stratton.
Funeral services will be held at High Noon on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp with Pastor Jason Veale officiating. Burial will follow at Union-Williams Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Pottorff, Mike Johnson, Michael Pottorff, Amasa Pottorff, Jace Rutledge, and Nick Harmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Groothuis, Gardner Pottorff, Nicholas Gursick, and Phillip Stratton.
