BOWLING GREEN -- Dean Edward Augenstein, 97, of Bowling Green, passed away on January 8th.
Dean was born on July 27, 1927, to Albert "A.B." and Hazel (Middleton) Augenstein in Marion County, Ohio. He dropped out of high school to enlist in the Navy during World War II, later finishing his education before reenlisting for the second time, this time in the Army. He married Grace Wolfe on January 23, 1954 and were married for 51 years until her death in 2005. They raised their two children, Deborah "Debbi" Majestic and Alan Bradley "Brad" Augenstein in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Dean was a beloved figure in the community, having served as Plain Township Trustee for many decades while also running Dean's Alignment on Maple Street. He was also a proud Mason, having been a member of Fort Miami-Calumet Chapter #191 since 1953, over 70 years as a Mason.
When he wasn't busy running his business, serving his community, or being a proud and dedicated father and grandfather, Dean was regularly seen on the golf course and was a longtime member of the Bowling Green Country Club. He was passionate about cars and would tinker with old classics even after retiring. And if that wasn't enough, he was an avid pool player, having played well into his nineties.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Morgan, and his three grandchildren, Lake Majestic, Emily and Jack Augenstein. In addition to Grace, he was preceded in death by his loving children, Debbi and Brad. Also preceding in death are his brother, Allen "Bus" and his sister, Lois Bigelow.
Dean's funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, 408 W. Wooster St. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to a charity close to the giver's heart.
The Augenstein family would like to thank Cedar Creek of Washington (Indiana) and Brookdale Bowling Green for their great care of Dean in his final years.
