TONTOGANY -- Louis McComb Pauff, 98, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 13, 2025 in Tontogany. He was born at home in Tontogany, Ohio August 31, 1926 to the late Louis and Alta (McComb) Pauff.
Louie was a 1944 graduate of Washington Township High School where he was in the top 13 of his graduating class. (There were 13 in his class) Soon after graduation, he went to work for Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. He was called to serve in the United States Navy 44 days later during World War II. He was assigned to the Mojave Desert Air Station Special Weapons Testing Tactical Evaluation Unit. He was there for about one year and he used to joke that he was stationed on the USS Neversail, since it was a naval unit in the middle of the desert. After discharge from the Navy, he went back to work for the Railroad for 41 years.
Louie was at a "Feather Dance" at the Tontogany Town Hall where he first saw Evelyn- he said to himself "That's the one I'm going to marry." Evelyn's father introduced them and they were married 3 years later. It was a good choice because they celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary June 3, 2025.
