PEMBERVILLE -- Myrtle "Myrt" Brownson peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 6 pm in her apartment at The Otterbein Oakwood Assisted Living Pemberville, OH surrounded by family and staff.
Myrtle got a glimpse of Heaven in her last days exclaiming how beautiful it was and what a gift to be able to see this amazing picture. After that, she was ready to go "home."
If you knew Myrtle, you know she had a zest for living and, in fact, she always wanted to write a book about her life called, "Mother Wore a Bonnet" referring to her roots of being raised in the Salvation Army by her parents Officers Hedley and Linnie Burrell. This did not happen, but she relayed many noteworthy stories that may end up in a book in her honor someday written by her family. She could make a trip uptown sound like an adventure.
She was born August 3, 1932 in Hamilton, Ohio, the middle child, with older siblings Muriel, Ruthie, and younger siblings Marion, and Hedley, she married William Edward Brownson, son of William and Helen Brownson, whom she met at Ashland College, on August 23, 1953 at the EUB church. Their union brought forth children, Brenda Sue born October 12, 1954, Cynthia Ann born June 19, 1957, and William Hedley born October 22, 1963.
Myrtle loved her family and did everything she knew to do to ensure their success modeling determination, dedication, selfless support, and faith in God. Myrtle loved others well serving in many roles in the workforce, in her church, in her community and family that made a difference in this world. She was loved and cared for by many as a result of her mantra of "Love begets love". Thoughtful in giving gifts, writing letters, taking in the lonely, making cookies for others, meals, and planning celebrations, she was the "hands and feet of Jesus" without fanfare or recognition.
Her family remaining on this earth, Bill (Myron) Brownson, Brenda (Mike) Wilhelm and grandchildren Kelly (Jon) Bergstrom), Heather (AJ) Granger, Josh (Laura) Wilhelm, Joel (Jamie) Wilhelm, Dan Wilhelm, and Sarah (Stephen) McArthur, along with 15 great-grandchildren invite you to join them in celebrating Myrtle's life.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 4 to 6 pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Defiance, OH. A funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 6, 2025 at the church, with additional visitation from 9:45 to 10:45 before the service. Myrtle will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery in Defiance.
