Margaret Straw Obituary

Margaret Maureen Forsberg Straw
May 7, 1951 - July 9, 2014
Resident of Lafayette
Margaret Maureen Forsberg Straw, mother, teacher, friend, and wife, passed away on Wednesday, July 9th, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer.
Maureen was surrounded by her husband, Jim Straw, and three daughters, Becky Straw, Elizabeth (Straw) Bamesberger, Hanna Straw and her first granddaughter, Maggie Bamesberger.
Maureen was born to Elmer and Margaret Forsberg in Chicago, Illinois, before moving to Los Angeles and graduating from Westchester High School in 1969.
Maureen and Jim were married for 41 years and enjoyed a wonderful life together. They met on a blind date to her sorority formal, AOPi, their sophomore year at UCLA. They were married in 1973 on their graduation day.
Maureen worked as a cardiac nurse in Santa Monica and Oakland before starting her family.
As her friends and family knew, if you wanted to get things done, you enlisted Maureen. During her career raising three girls, she served as a Girl Scout leader, volunteered as Las Trampas Swim Team Director three times, was active in Lafayette United Methodist Church, and helped to start Parkmead Elementary's Alternative Learning School.
For the last 17 years, she worked at Pied Piper Preschool in Walnut Creek, where she loved helping the children learn and grow. Her family and friends have many fond memories of her laughing, quilting, and traveling to Europe together.
Her Memorial Service will be held this Friday, July 11th at 4 pm at Lafayette United Methodist Church: 955 Moraga Road, Lafayette, CA 94549.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to support Lafayette United Methodist Church (www.thelumc.org) or her daughter Becky's nonprofit, The Adventure Project (www.theadventureproject.org/maureen).

Maureen was an exceptional and giving person. We are so blessed to have known her. It will be difficult without her here. She leaves so many warm memories for all who knew her. Our prayers are with Jim, the girls, their family and friends.
