Carol Kennedy Obituary

Carol Jean Burns Kennedy, 81, formerly of Shelbyville, died Saturday, April 22, 2023 at her home in Louisville. A native of Benton, IL, she was the daughter of the late James and Delta Jean McDowell Burns. She graduated with a B.A. in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University. Her career in nursing started at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington and she retired from the Scott County Health Department in Huntsville, TN. She was a member of Sigma Delta Thi and a former member of Golden Key Honors Society. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, especially historical non-fiction, gardening, flowers, house plants and going to the movies. She was also an avid writer with a great attention to detail. She had a strong interest in world events and politics and followed them faithfully. She was protestant by faith.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Arthur Kennedy, her sons, Dennis Stewart and Anderson M. "Kent" Kennedy; her brother, Leon Burns; her stepdaughter, Shelia Jones and her stepson, Donald "Donnie" Kennedy, Sr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son and Kent's twin, Matthew Kennedy of Louisville; her stepson, Kenneth Kennedy of Steubenville, OH; one brother, Phillip Burns (Sheila) of Vermilion, OH; her grandson, Artie Kennedy of Louisville and her constant companion and beloved cat, Mister Moss.

Cremation has been selected in accordance with her wishes. There will be no service at this time, and her cremated remains will be privately interred at Walkers Chapel Cemetery in Parkers Lake, KY.
