David Mason Obituary
David Gray Mason, 79, passed away peacefully April 3, 2022 in Glendale, Ohio surrounded by his adoring daughters, Katie and Leslie, and their loving mother Mary (Robertson) Parker. David was the son of Robert Reese Mason and Martha Gray (Foree) Mason of New Castle, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by brothers Reese Foree Mason and George R. Mason. He is survived by his pride and joy, his daughters, Catherine Gray (Katie) Kreidler (Will) of Glendale, Ohio and Leslie Louise Spong (Tim) of Louisville, Colorado; and his brother, Leslie K. Mason of Anniston, AL.
David was the proud grandfather of seven truly amazing grandchildren: Catherine and Robert Kreidler; and Virginia, Mason, William, David, and John Spong. Of special note is the timely birth of his first great grandchild, Theodore Steiblen, born on the same day and close to the hour as our beloved father, grandfather, and newly-celebrated great grandfather departed. As their bodies journeyed, we are greatly comforted knowing their spirits blessed one another in their passage.
David graduated from Western Kentucky University and later earned his JD from the University of Kentucky Law School graduating with highest distinction noted in criminal law. He was elected to the Kentucky State Legislature as a state representative in 1974 serving through 1977, proudly representing Henry County, Shelby County, and part of Franklin County. Following his legislative endeavor, he was elected Henry County Attorney serving from 1977-1981. In addition to his membership to the Kentucky Bar Association and the American Bar Association, he was also a proud member of the Florida Bar Association.
While his professional accomplishments are certainly note-worthy, he would loudly and proudly boast his greatest achievements were the titles Dad and Papa. David was THE BEST FATHER any daughters could ever hope for. In his eyes, his doting daughters could do no wrong. In the eyes of his children and grandchildren, Papa could do no wrong. His love was unconditional. Always. And his family loved him unconditionally. Always.
David was someone who, upon meeting, was never forgotten. Motivated by an innate desire to serve others, he leaves a long following of loyal friends in his wake. David never met a stranger. Without a doubt, he will be remembered as a natural storyteller. His memory recall was impressive. He mesmerized his audience, family and friends of all ages, with captivating stories from his childhood filled in with the colorful names of real-life characters throughout his life's adventures. He was a great listener and known for his sage advice. He was an uncanny judge of character. He was generous to a fault and was known to help anyone in need. He was an inspiration to the young, and he was respected and admired by all who benefitted from his friendship. If love alone could have kept him from leaving us, he would live forever. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Interment will be in New Castle Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 1 pm until service time. Pallbearers are Tim Spong, Will Kreidler, Mason Spong, William Spong, David Spong & Robert Kreidler. In lieu of flowers, contributions requested be made to donor's preferred charity.
