Cherokee Anita Barnes
Feb. 7, 1936- Sept. 5, 2025

Cherokee Anita Barnes, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, in Augusta, Kan.
Cherokee was born in Sequoyah County on Feb. 7, 1936, to Horace Jefferson Allen and Susie Ellen (Palmer) Allen.
She was living at Sallisaw when she married Earnest Lee Barnes on May 20, 1952, at Fort Smith, Ark. They moved to Tulsa to live and work, raising three children, Patsy, Donna and Gary. Upon graduation of their children from high school, they moved to Gans in 1978 and lived there until her husband Earnest died July 2, 1999.
Cherokee was employed many years by K-Mart working in different locations in a variety of positions both in Tulsa and Fort Smith, retiring in 1998 to be with her husband Earnest prior to his death.
She then moved to Sallisaw in 2000 to be near her sisters and attending First Assembly of God Church. In 2020 she relocated to Augusta to live with her son Gary and his wife, Susan.
Survivors include one daughter, Patsy Barnes of Tulsa; one son and daughter in law, Gary and Susan Barnes of Augusta; one grandson and wife, Matthew and Jennifer of Kansas; and one great-granddaughter, Peyton Barnes of Kansas; two sisters, Wanda Bryan of Catoosa and Sue Allen of Tulsa; one bother Jerrel Allen and wife, Wanda of Butler, Mo.; as well as several other relatives and friends.
Cherokee was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her daughter, Donna Barnes; and siblings, Christine McGlothlin, Ruth Jamison and Horace Allen, Jr.
