Adrian Reeves Obituary

REEVES, Adrian Desmond - Died peacefully on February 6, 2005, surrounded by his loving family, never having lost his love of life or his sense of humor. Born August 29, 1924, in Detroit, Desmond was also raised in Scotland and Toronto. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and then U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. After graduating from Berkeley in 1952, he worked three years for Caltex Petroleum in England and 30 years for Standard Oil (Chevron). He had four children with his first wife, Isabel Wadsworth. While working for Chevron, he took his family on the adventure of a lifetime, living in Iran and traveling the globe together for five years. After returning to Berkeley, Desmond still traveled for work, but always found time for family and volunteer activities. In 1973, he married Rita Schmidt, an oil company executive from New York. They lived for a time in England before being drawn back to SF and the home they would happily share for 27 years. After retirement, Desmond was both a student and a teacher at the Fromm Institute and SeniorNet and read the news for the blind. Above all, he was an inspiration to his four children and nine grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father, Capt. Adrian Reeves; and his mother, Anne Matthew; he is survived by his wife, Rita; his children, Christopher, Rosemary, Brian and James and their spouses; grandchildren, Andrew, Nicholas, Kristin, Marian, Alexander, William, Matthew, Justin and Jameson; his sister, Joyce Ahern; her children, Kevin, Patrick, Adrianne and Mary; and brother in law, Robert Schmidt. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, 2390 Bush St., San Francisco, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, followed by a Celebration of his life at the University of San Francisco, Lone Mountain Campus, 2130 Fulton St. Memorial donations may be made to the Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning, (415) 422-6805.
