Agnes Mercurio Obituary

Agnes Marie Mercurio
03/13/1954 - 04/04/2024
Agnes "Aggie" Marie Mercurio, 70, of San Bruno, CA, peacefully gained her angel wings on April 4, 2024.
Born in San Francisco CA, the daughter of the late Anthony and Agnes Mercurio and Ann Mercurio aka "The Peach." Aggie was the elder of eight, raised in San Francisco and Pacifica.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Baby Acosta; and her brother, David Mercurio; and is survived by Dennis Krieg, her partner of 22 years; siblings, Janice Rieger (Paul), Kathy Shepard (Johnny d.), Linda Mercurio, Jack Mercurio (Cindy), Jim Mercurio (Teri), Christine Mercurio, and David Mercurio d. (Nicole); a number of nieces and nephews; cousin, Sandra Stoughton; and countless numbers of additional cousins and friends, including Dennis' beloved mother, Doris Krieg, and Aggie's Standing Against Global Exploitation (SAGE) sisters.
A graduate of Immaculate Conception Academy, Class of 1971.
Aggie was one of the first women hired as a Peer Counselor for SAGE. She later became the Director of the Satellite Sexual Trauma Program. During her tenure at SAGE from 1998 – 2002, she saved the lives of hundreds of women and girls. SAGE was an organization created by and for survivors of sexual abuse, trauma, and exploitation.
For many years, Aggie worked with survivors in custody and in programs within the community of San Francisco. She was a Survivor Impact Speaker in the Resolve to Stop the Violence Program through the San Francisco Sheriff's Department and the First Offenders Prostitution Program through the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She found her artistic voice while performing as part of the Medea Project with other survivors in the play (Un)Common Ground. She spoke at conferences nationally and internationally and traveled to Korea and Copenhagen, fearlessly helping girls and women escape human trafficking conditions. Aggie had the ability to connect deeply with people because she had been there and had escaped herself. She was loved by staff and countless numbers of people she helped. Our Aggie was a miracle.
A loving partner, pet mom to Frankie, Gloria and Armando, the best big sister, cousin, auntie, and a friend to many. The Legacy of this Woman Warrior will live on.

My Joan of Arc!
I met and quickly got acquainted with, Aggie, c. 1967, as we together awaited our school bus trip to Oceana High School. Both freshmen. Me: petite, easily intimidated, already a target for "girl" bullying, yep, me being attacked at the bus-stop. Aggie appears on the scene: Amazon-tall, Hollywood-beautiful, bursting with confidence, she quickly stepped in, yelled STOP at the top of her lungs, frightened us all, lectured and shamed these silly girls, who by God, never troubled me again. Aggie and I hung out together for a period of time, but circumstances changed, Aggie moved to a new school, we lost touch, but after finding her on FB several years ago, we passionately kept in contact via Messenger, both seeking, sharing moral, spiritual support, over my husband's terminal illness, (he passed a week before Aggie) her own physical decline, painful treatments, discouragements, loved-ones deaths...Such a soul! I never knew anything, of Aggie's work on behalf of others until I read about it ...What a gift Aggie was to the world. My deep condolences to the family and many, many friends of this incredible woman of faith and love.

Aggie I will always keep you close to my Heart!
You were the one friend I so needed in the time of an emergency with my parents. You stepped up and did a wonderful job with my mom. I´ll never forget that!! You have a heart as big as the Grand Canyon with all the love to fill it! I´ll miss, our long talks on the phone. I´ll keep the only tulip that survived your garden that you sent me. There will never be another Aggie who was so full of compassion,Love & generosity, I miss you my friend! May You Rest In Eternal Peace...Your physical body may be gone But your Spirit will live on in the lives of those who loved you deeply. My sincere condolences to all Aggie`s family friends & loved ones. God Bless You All.
