Longtime resident of San Carlos, California, Agnes (Aggie) Kolos Perry, 98, died March 1, 2025. She was born on January 17, 1927, in Yoakum, Texas, where she attended St. Joseph Catholic school. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1947 at the University of Texas, Austin, studying languages. She was a member of the Czech Club, the Tee Club, and the Women's Independent Campus Association. After graduating, Aggie stayed in Austin and worked at the Cotton Exchange. In 1950, she met a UT graduate student in chemistry, Robert (Bob) Hood Perry, Jr., who became her husband and lifelong partner.
After Bob earned his doctorate, the couple moved to Baytown, Texas, where Aggie taught Spanish at Cedar Bayou Junior High School. Aggie supported Bob's career, which included stints in New Jersey and Massachusetts and eventually San Carlos, California. Aggie worked as a receptionist at Rupert Taylor Real Estate and became an active member of the San Carlos community.
Always curious and engaging, Aggie developed lifelong friendships with classmates, professional colleagues, and neighbors. She loved hearing about people's history and sharing her own. She enjoyed reading daily devotional prayers and working crossword puzzles. She was a longtime member of St. Charles Catholic Church in San Carlos and volunteered at St. Anthony's Padua Dining Room for many years.
Aggie was a devoted wife to Bob, and cherished their sixty-six years together. She was also a loving and attentive sister to Viola Kolos Doenges, and kind and generous aunt to Viola's five children and their families.
Preceding Aggie in death were her parents, Joseph and Agnes Kolos, who immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia, her husband, Bob, and her sister, Viola. Aggie is survived by Viola's children, Joseph (the late Martha), Michael (Carol), Susann (Randy Russell), David (Soumaya), and Vincent. She is also survived by many grand and great-nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to Aggie's kind and loving caregivers, Nora Arguello and Charlotte Tuipulotu, who provided care and companionship through her final years. Also dear to Aggie were her neighbors, Lynn and Tom Yap and the Hom family.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., March 19, at St. Charles Catholic Church, 880 Tamarack Ave, San Carlos, CA 94070. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1975 Santa Cruz Ave, Menlo Park, CA 94025.
