"Alex" and his family became good friends of us during his studies at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He was a creative story teller, a brilliant scholar, a pastoral and spiritual companion and a great friend. We went to Mexico together with Kathy and had many valuable visits that strengthened our friendship and mutual respect. His contributions will have a long standing presence among us through his writings and students given their valuable insights.

Kathy,
You've been on my mind and in my prayers always, actually, but especially the last six months. Ironically, when I added your and Alex's names to my congregation's prayer list, my pastor knew Alex. She said he was well-established when she "was green" in her ministry, and that he was quite generous toward her. Her name? Kristin Santiago, although you may know her better by her maiden name, which of course, I cannot recall. I will continue to think of you, pray for you, and remember fondly all our times together as children/young adults. May your first Christmas without your spouse be filled with the Good News of Jesus Christ, which is what keeps us all going, is it not?

Our prayers are with the family of Alex Garcia-Rivera, We were fellow students at the Lutheran School of Theology. His theological work and way of life will live among us as a testimony of God's beauty and presence with his people. We pray that the consolation of the Holy Spirit, the hope of the Resurrection and the presence of the Christ child surround you with a big abrazo during this difficult time.
