Alfred Fregosi Obituary

Alfred Dominic Fregosi
September 11, 1913 - November 19, 2023
Alfred Fregosi passed away last Sunday at home, with his daughters and caregiver by his side. He loved life and is remembered as a wisecracking, caring and loving father, grandfather, and friend. Alfred is survived by his daughters Christine Fregosi, Joanne Masseno (Rick), Janet Fregosi (Kwablah), and grandchildren Josef Fregosi, Seon and Gina Masseno, Mable and Semanu Attiogbe.
Al was born in San Francisco to Joseph and Virginia Fregosi. His Italian parents started J. Fregosi and Son Florist, and Al continued running the business until his retirement. He was in one of the first graduating classes at Balboa High School, pitched for a city league baseball team, worked for Bank of America, and served in the Navy on Okinawa in World War II. He always said that the best thing to happen during this time was meeting and marrying his wife Blanche.
Alfred was an avid golfer and fan of the SF Giants, Oakland A's and Warriors. He was a member of the Italian American Social Club and the Geneva Excelsior Lions Club. After retiring, Al and Blanche enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending winters at their place in Mokuleia. Throughout the social and physical changes of his 110 years, he surprised us all with his adaptability. In his 90's when Blanche became terminally ill, he stepped into his role of caregiver beautifully and he even learned to cook for her. His secret to living beyond 100 was "everything in moderation".
Alfred's family gives heartfelt thanks to his caregivers Agnes, Alphonse and Martin Santos; Maribel Martinez; Patti McKellar and Sister Anne Marie of Pathways; Dr. Diana Jao; and all the other friends and caregivers who have enriched his long life.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Tuesday November 28 from 5-8 PM at Sneider and Sullivan &O'Connell in San Mateo, and a funeral mass on Wednesday November 29th at 10:30 AM, St. Bartholomew's Church in San Mateo. Internment will follow at the Italian Cemetery, Colma.
Memorial donations may be made to Pathways Hospice, Habitat for Humanity or the charity of your choice.

I knew Al Fregosi through his daughter, Janet. When I saw him, he always said something that took me by surprise for a moment and then made me laugh.
His loyalty and commitment to family and friends will always be remembered.

Purchased flowers for my wedding from J. Fregosi and Sons. They were the best florist in the Excelsior back then

Dearest Uncle Al, you will be missed beyond measure. Thank you for being a true gentleman and a genuinely kind person, with a remarkable joy for life and an inspiring generosity of spirit. Aunt Blanche will be so glad to have you join her in heaven... She has undoubtedly missed you, while we had the pleasure of your lovely company for a wonderfully long time!

With all our love,

So many great memories! He was one of a kind. Here's a favorite picture of Uncle Al, having breakfast with family in a crowded coffee shop, and of course, with no complaints.
