Alfred Craig Jackson, age 71, of San Francisco, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 29, 2024, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved partner, Charles J. (Chuck) Shaffer, who passed away on September 4, 2021.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Craig moved to San Francisco in November 1989, where he spent the rest of his life. He proudly became an American citizen in January 1999.
Craig held master's degrees from both York University and the University of Toronto. Though he achieved much in his career, his greatest joy came from working in an educational setting. In 1991, he joined the Mechanics' Institute, where he dedicated 34 years of service. He cherished his role in supporting the library community and formed many lasting friendships during his time there.
Craig is survived by his siblings, Carolyn, Jeff, and Chris, as well as their spouses, and his numerous nieces and nephews. His life was rich with love for his family, his many friends, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

I have known Craig for more than forty years. A recuring memory I have of Craig is that of his chuckle and laugh when something that was said, ammused him. That is how I will remember Craig and it is a nice memory to have.
