Ali Shepherd Obituary

Ali Shepherd On Friday evening we lost a beloved wife, mother, business partner, leader, friend, and most importantly an all around phenomenal woman. Ali Shepherd lived everyday of her life to the fullest. Throughout her 25 years in management, sales and operations she touched so many lives with such passion for her work and compassion for her colleagues. Her drive for life and work set an example for those of us fortunate to have known her. Ali Shepherd was a tri-athlete who enjoyed gardening, golf, cooking and spending time at her homes in Larkspur and Windsor with family and friends. Ali paved the way for women in radio. She helped develop KSOL into what was then and is now the #1 Spanish language radio station in the Bay Area. She was one of the first women to hold a general manager position in a top 10 market. Later her enthusiasm for the Hispanic market led her to help form what is today The Latino Group, an advertising corporation in Corte Madera. Ali was the type of woman who always saw the glass as half full. She was always the "positive patty" in the room. She was a dedicated mother and wife who loved her family and made sure they knew it every single day. Not a day went by that she did not tell her staff how much she appreciated their work. She was a ray of sunshine even through the darkest storms. We owe it to her to celebrate her memory and continue to honor her love for life. She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Jim Shepherd; son and daughter, Jason and Danielle. Services will be held on Friday, October 19, 11AM at St Vincent's (Catholic Church) School for Boys at 1 St. Vincent Drive, San Rafael, CA 94903. A reception will follow. Parking at the church is limited, please car pool. In lieu of flowers, if you would like, please make a donation to the Ali Shepherd Living Foundation where donations will be made in perpetuity to her favorite concerns which include, a scholarship fund for the Latino community and efforts towards the eradication of breast cancer. You can mail your donations to The Ali Shepherd Living Foundation c/o The Latino Group, 21 Tamal Vista Blvd, Ste 135, Corte Madera, CA 94925.

Hello Ali,
I remember when I first met you and you were interviewing me for a job. I expected the interview process to be rigid and formal. I was so nervous, but right away your smile made me feel at ease. Working for you, I always knew that I could talk to you no matter what. I looked up to you and admired the amazing way you had with people. You were kind to everyone. I miss our talks, laughing with you and sharing stories. The last time I saw you, Sofia had just been born, and since then I have had so many funny stories I have wanted to share with you. We would have laughed and laughed!
I love you and I miss you.

To my Ali, my best friend and sister. I so miss you and my heart broken for your loss. You will always be my bambam boobadoops and moose, to others that means nothing, but we share so many things. I now talk to you and say, hi my boobadoops are you listening, I know you are there with me and I ask for you to overlook everyone with your gracious spirit and heart to watch over us physically, emotionally and spiritually each and every day. Soon we will be together again ...just needed to hear from my sis... Love you, moose!!

This amazing woman worked hard, played hard, and loved hard every day of her life. Ali gave herself selflessly to everyone who touched her life. Ali, this earth is a better place because you lived in it. Ali was a role model and an inspiration of who we should be in life...living at cause and choice each moment of each day. She was adored, cherished, and supported by her life partner Jim, son Jason, and daughter Danielle. I will miss your infectious laugh, your infinite support, and your eternal love. I can't believe you are gone in the physical life. I already feel your spirit, I see your light, and I hear your voice telling us to celebrate life and the people in our lives. To touch everyone around us because it makes a difference. Your legacy is the countless lives you have touched, the friendships you have partnered, and the priceless value of your dash. I look forward to see you again...a toast to you girl from your brother and family.

Ali was a special friend for the last 30 years. Our paths always brought us back together no matter which way we drifted. I admired her not only in her professional life, but she was the wife and mother, we should all aspire to. Her loss has brought many of us together. She would have wanted that. The emptiness she has left in my life is very painful and I am trying to be as strong as she would want me to be. I miss her and loved her so.

The memorial service for Ali was so beautiful and moving. The sheer number of people that attended represents the incredible individual she was. Although, I never had the pleasure of working directly with her, I do have many memories of times we spent at the Wash bag, Bix, the Cyprus Club, radio functions, and more. When I was with her, I felt lighter, smarter, goofier and more fun! Her love of life was truly infectious. I read constantly and the memorial bookmark showing her awesome smile makes me smile. I am trying to "dream as if I'll live forever and Live as if I'll die today." My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Ali was one of legion of strong women that came out of the media business in the 1970's and 1980's and, even among them possessed a singularly uncanny and seemingly innate talent for leadership as well as the drive and determination one would expect of the tough market-competitor that she was.

Over the years I had the opportunity to both compete against and work with her.

She was a woman, in many ways, of few words but at the same time had a lot to say. She would dispense memorable aphorisms in the heat of moment that still stick with me today. Like all of the best leaders, her style was to let you figure out what she meant and how it applied to the battle at hand so that you would learn and grow.

She had inestimable energy and lust for life and still somehow managed to balance her broad career and presence in San Francisco radio with a great family life that produced two wonderful children.

Even though the SF radio market is part of my past now, Ali's passing is a loss that effects me deeply.

When I read about the tragedy that took Ali from her family, colleagues and friends, it hit me especially hard because I lost my husband Herb in the same way in 1985--a senseless traffic accident, and a wonderful person and radio executive is gone forever.
I knew Ali for 15 years, and always enjoyed dealing with her. Her legacy will live on, and the memories of her smiles.
