Alice Carouba, devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away Thursday after a long illness at the age of 93. Alice was preceded in death by her beloved son James and her husband Habib. She will be deeply missed by her cherished children, Nicholas, Joseph, Mary, and Annie and their spouses Phyllis Carouba, Alix Lutnick, and Molly Lynch, her adored grandchildren Ryan Schultz, Alli Schultz, Joanna Carouba, and Charlotte Carouba as well as her great-grandchildren, in whom she delighted, Abby, Ryla, and Jake.
Born on the south side of Chicago at the very start of the Great Depression on November 2nd, 1929, Alice grew up understanding the value of resilience and the importance of caring for others. After successfully raising her five lively children, she devoted her time to making a positive impact on the lives of others. Alice was a long-time volunteer for the Salvation Army, where she selflessly served those in need. She took great pride in her Irish heritage, serving as member of The Ancient Order of Hibernians, and was actively involved in San Francisco's United Irish Cultural Center. Her passion for helping others, and her strong sense of community were evident in her lifelong commitment to various local organizations.
As her children matured and started families of their own, Alice found joy in spending time with her friends, particularly her sisters-in-law, Katie Carouba and Carol Deeb, and her dear friend and partner in mischief, Carol Canellos. Their companionship brought her much happiness and enriched her life.
A celebration of Alice's life will be held on Friday, June 2nd, at 10:30am at St. Stephen's Church, 451 Eucalyptus Dr. in San Francisco. A viewing will precede the service at 10am.
In honoring Alice's frugality and her aversion to waste, the family kindly requests that, instead of flowers, donations be made to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society. By supporting these causes, Alice's legacy of caring for others and her commitment to making a difference will continue to shine brightly.
Though Alice has left this world, her love, kindness, and resilient spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
