Sorry I´m late with this but I just now found out Alma has passed away. I haven´t seen Alma since Piedmont high school. I thought Alma was very beautiful and so kind and unassuming. Just so wonderful to be around. She hung around of what I thought were a group of exceptionally attractive girls all stunning in appearance, just like Alma. They were a close nit group and all had an air about them. Alma lived with I assumed were her aunts of grandparents, on Highland Avenue near the local Safeway. Her guardians were older and I remember two woman that were speaking what sounded like Russian at Alma´s home. I knew Alma´s homeland was from the Baltic country of Latvia. Alma didn´t talk much about her ancestry so I never asked. Alma was a mystery to me but I enjoyed her company just the same. Hearing of her passing was a terrible reminder that we are all heading to an afterlife. The passing of a good friend always hits me hard. Alma´s passing was a shock was very sad to me and I´m sure to all who knew her. God bless Alma. Rest in peace. Mark

In September 2019 members of "Almi's" Piedmont High School 1969 graduating class held our 50th Reunion. Almi donated generously to our successful "Legacy Bench" project, but did not sign up to attend any of the reunion events. At the end of the Sunday picnic event at the Piedmont Recreation Center, a woman appeared with a small dog on a leash and asked if this was the Reunion and if she could "crash" the party. This was Almi! I was one of the greeters, and as soon as I discovered who I was talking to, other classmates surrounded Almi with greetings welcoming hugs! It has taken almost two years for the sad news of Almi's passing to arrive. Many surviving classmates will be saddened by this news... I send my personal sympathy and condolences to Almi's family and friends, and I send thanks to the author of Almi's obituary, which is well written and helps provide closure.
