ALTON KINGMAN Obituary


Alton Hayward Kingman, Jr.
Al Kingman passed away suddenly August 7, 2012 in Sun City West, Arizona at the age of 90. His memory lives on through his children Joan Hayward Kingman, married to Robert Maury Wildman, Dan Edwards Kingman (deceased) and Mary Louise Krauland, married to Frank John Krauland, grand children James Hayward Wildman, Amy Marie Abels, married to Howard M. Abels, Kevin Kingman Krauland and Hilary Kingman, and great grandchild Izrael Kingman, son of Kevin Kingman Krauland. Al graduated from Lehigh University majoring in Industrial Engineering and going on to earn a BS degree from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. He served in World War II as 1st Lt. in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Hickham Field in Hawaii. There he met the love of his life Mary Ellen Stavely and they wed in 1945. They were married for 63 years until her passing in 2009. Al's career after the Air Force began as Administrator of the Real Estate License Commission for the Territory of Hawaii from 1945 to 1949 and moved on to First Western Bank (United California Bank, First Interstate Bank, and now known as Wells Fargo Bank), where he held the following positions throughout his successful career: Operations Manager, Branch Manager, Branch Administrator for twenty-five Northern California branches, Senior Administrator for Northern California, Bank Foundation Director, Senior Loan Committee Member, and Executive Vice President and Administrator of Northern and Southern California. He retired on May 7, 1987. Al was also affiliated and held positions with several different organizations some including: Director of Master Card International, Inc., Director of Western States Bancard Association, President of the California Bankers Association, Director of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, President of the Independent Colleges of Northern California, Director of the Bay Area Council, Inc., Director of the United Way of the Bay Area, Director of the YMCA of San Francisco, Trustee of the University of San Francisco and Finance Committee Chairman, Trustee of the California State University at Hayward, Trustee of Alta Bates Medical Foundation, Member of the Executive Board of Boy Scouts of America, Director of the Pacific Medical Center and the Director of the Red Cross in Hayward. Al and his wife were avid world travelers, golfers and loved entertaining. Later in life Al developed an enthusiasm for billiards which he enjoyed each week with a group of his close friends.
