Amanda Bryan Obituary

Amanda Atherton Bryan
11/26/1957 - 12/25/2023
A fifth-generation descendant of two Calif. pioneers, Faxon Dean Atherton and Colonel Edward Engle Eyre. Her grandparents were Suzanne de Lenclos and Edward Eyre, and Kathryn Maxwell and Carleton Felton Bryan.
Amanda was born in Berkeley, grew up in Piedmont, attended Wildwood School, Anna Head School, and graduated from Santa Catalina School in Monterey.
Amanda attended the University of Colorado, pledging Kappa Kappa Gamma, the University of California in Berkeley, and the California College of Arts and Crafts, where she received her degree in Graphic Design. She then joined the Graphic Design firm of Thomas Ingalls and Associates in San Francisco, later establishing her own graphic design business.
Always interested, Amanda decided to pursue the family business, where she enjoyed meeting and connecting with many accomplished people. To know Amanda was to know her interests.
Amanda was most passionate about preserving and protecting the environment. She was on the board of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, the Alpine Winter Foundation, and supported many other organizations: the San Francisco S.P.C.A., the Marine Mammal Center, Canine Angels, and Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue.
Amanda had a great sense of humor. She loved a good laugh and did not hesitate to laugh at herself.
High on her list of activities she enjoyed was traveling. She started with her family and then with a college group, she went on Semester at Sea for four months, which covered many unusual places in the world. She went on many other trips as well.
Amanda led a happy, orderly life, accompanied by her German Shorthaired Pointers, Ollie and Stormy, with long daily walks in the Presidio, weekends at the family vineyard, where she enjoyed riding her favorite horse, Pal, and winters in the snow. After many years on ski patrol, Amanda switched to cross country, so that Ollie and Stormy could join her on her backcountry treks. Her summers were spent at Lake Tahoe, where she biked, hiked, and swam with her dogs.
From the moment Amanda came to understand her prognosis, her overarching concern was what would become of her beloved dogs. They are beautiful animals and are used to a routine with a lot of exercise. After word got out about her situation, it was an old and dear friend, that came to the rescue and offered to take them to live with him in Oregon.
Amanda was overwhelmed with the love and devotion that she received from her family and dear friends who came to see her from near and far. Amanda wanted to thank all of you for being with her, and helping her through this unplanned ordeal.
She is survived by her mother, Florence Atherton Eyre Bryan; sisters, Kathryn Maxwell Bryan Hampton {Gregory), Suzanne Eyre {Suki) Bryan and Anne de Lenclos Bryan; nephew, John Maxwell Bryan Hampton (Kerri); nieces, Cary Betts Hampton and Megan Amanda Atherton Bryan; grandniece, Emily Atherton Brown Hampton; and many devoted cousins. She was predeceased by her father, John Maxwell Bryan; and her nephew, Atherton Eyre Hampton.
If you wish, donations may be made in her memory to the League to Save Lake Tahoe.

Amanda was one of my sorority sisters and she will be missed by all of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters from the University of Colorado. I am so pleased that I was able to see her at our reunion in 2016. May her family find solace that she is on a wonderful journey and that we shall all meet up again when we take our journey.

In the early '90s, I was working at 200 Green Street. She had her graphic design office next door. Somehow, we got to talking - and we became close friends for a few years. But my job ended and, sadly, we just never quite managed to keep an active friendship. And that's been one of my greatest regrets. She could really laugh. We could really laugh. I will miss all that laughter.

What a beautiful remembrance of Amanda
I miss Amanda so very much. Looking at the photo, I could hear her voice and wonderful laugh. I shared her love for animals and wild life. We often compared notes on our devotion to conservation efforts and animal justice organizations. Amanda had a huge heart that she shared with all her friends and animals. We enjoyed so many fun times with her and friends in Nappa and Sugarbowl and Tahoe riding bikes, swimming, water skiing, downhill skiing or just hiking. Whatever we did, we had more fun with our dear Amanda.
She will be missed by me and all her friends and our memories of her will be cherished.

Sending love to the entire family.

Amanda, my dear friend and soul mate: Ollie, Stormy and I miss you and love you so...always and forever! The years of hikes and philosophy with you and the pups in the canyon, and the unforgettable sunset dinners on the beach are imbedded in memory for life.
