Amy Lee Obituary

Amy Lee
July 17, 1946 - March 16, 2023
Amy Jean Lee, born on July 17, 1946, age 76, peacefully passed away on March 16, 2023. She is predeceased by her parents, Kermit and Ava Lee, her brothers, David and Richard and Richard's wife Mitzi. Amy was a loving caretaker for her parents and brothers.
Amy was a native San Franciscan, educated in the SFUSD public schools, graduating from Lowell High School and going on to San Francisco State University to earn a BA in French and California teaching credentials and later, an MA in Educational Administration. Amy had certification as a Reading Specialist and as a Chinese bilingual teacher.
Amy spent 37 years as a teacher in San Francisco where she touched thousands of lives of children and their family members. After spending several years as an itinerant ESL (English as a Second Language) Resource Teacher, Amy joined the staff at Frank McCoppin Elementary as primarily a first grade teacher in the Chinese Bilingual Program until her retirement in 2006.
Between 1984-1986, Amy was the Foreman of the Federal Grand Jury, Northern District of California, an experience of civic participation that Amy took pride in.
Amy was very active in Alpha Delta Kappa, holding leadership positions including President between 1986 to 1988. She participated in local ADK meetings and fund raising events as well as state and national conventions. Many close friendships developed over the years through her association with ADK.
Amy had many varied interests: baking, knitting, crocheting, international travel, and mah jong. She was an avid San Francisco 49er fan, even during lean years and followed the soap opera, General Hospital, for decades. Amy often channeled her 1st grade students in her collection of teddy bears and other charming items that delighted her inner child!
Services will be held on March 31, 2023, 10 am at the Green Street Mortuary, 649 Green Street, San Francisco and at the Chinese Cemetery, Colma. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: SF ADK Scholarship Fund, Kathleen Holstead, 818 Rivera St, San Francisco, CA 94116.
