Anthony Meredith Obituary

Anthony J. Meredith

Anthony J. Meredith passed away at his home in San Francisco, Sunday morning, September 28, 2014. He succumbed to complications due to motor neuron disease. He was 44 years old.

Tony was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 1, 1970 to Laurie and Anthony Meredith. In 1974, he and his family moved to Sacramento, CA. After graduating from high school, Tony moved to San Francisco, where he became involved in alternative art, performance, and design. Among his many contributions to the San Francisco art scene was opening an art space called Showroom in the lower Haight, where he exhibited the work of local emerging artists. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Tony also exhibited his own art and design work both nationally and internationally. One ongoing project, lighting he composed from Tupperware, was sold at Gump's and the Whitney Museum in New York and received international exposure.

In 2008, Tony earned his BFA in Industrial Design at California College of the Arts, graduating with high honors. Tony was hired by Frog Design, Inc shortly after graduating. In his five years at Frog, many of the projects he worked on were recognized with design awards. Frog will be establishing a scholarship in industrial design to CCA in Tony's honor.

In his everyday life, Tony was constantly creating and highly prolific. He saw even the most routine tasks as an opportunity to make something exciting and beautiful. His irreverent wit and charm endeared him to many. Tony's influence is widespread and his creative energy will continue to be a source of inspiration for family, friends, and colleagues. He will truly be missed.

Tony is survived by his mother, Laurie, and his siblings, Karen, Korinne, Lisa, and John.

Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service, which will be held on October 13, 2014 from 2:00-4:00pm at The Neptune Society of Northern California Columbarium––One Loraine Court, San Francisco. Tony will be interred at the Columbarium, in the Hall of Olympians.

Tony requested that memorial donation in his name be made to GLBT Historical Society, 657 Mission St., Suite 300, San Francisco. http://www.glbthistory.org

Oh Tony! I had many great memories with Tony at frog. From RuPaul to Cat with Lips! He loved my coffeetime appetizers, and taught me to never call any plastic containers as Tupperware. Fly high Tony!

Tony, I am still in shock to hear that you have moved to a different place in the universe. I will deeply miss your 'meow's, your radiant spirit, your quirky creativity, and a truly great friend. You are one of the fiercest human beings ever. I'll miss you and love you always.
