Arthur Andreas Obituary

Arthur Andreas (Sheiky)
01/08/1930 - 03/25/2025
Arthur Andreas, born Aristomanis Avramopoulos in San Francisco, January 8, 1930 to first generation Greek-Americans, Dr. Christos and Catherine Avramopoulos, died peacefully on March 25, 2025.
He was a graduate of Lowell High School and University of San Francisco and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, though luckily he only got as far as Spokane, Washington. He attended USF Law School and passed the Bar in 1957, after which he and a friend took off to the youth hostels of Europe for a six-month adventure. He loved traveling and meeting fascinating people along the way, one of whom was Margarita Gomez-Acebo y Cejuela of Spain, who, a few years later, sent him an invitation to her wedding, a royal wedding in Switzerland to ex-King Simeon II of Bulgaria, which he happily accepted. As a young lawyer, he didn't have much of a wardrobe, he recalled with a smile, and had to be "outfitted" for a week of royal festivities. When he returned to San Francisco he began practicing law in earnest, under the tutelage of Gregory Stout, his first employer, and soon opened his own firm with George Walker (Walker & Andreas) an association that lasted nearly forty years. He was a longtime member of the Olympic Club, where he played many rounds of golf, and patron of the San Francisco Symphony, Opera and Ballet. He met his wife, Erika, at a performance of the S.F. Ballet at the old Alcazar Theater on O'Farrell St., in 1961, and they eloped in Reno in 1963. He was part owner of Feather River Park Resort (a place he loved), and president of its board of directors for many years, where he and his family spent a portion of each summer since 1971, and their fondest memories were made. His last and final visit was in 2021. The Mauna Kea, on the big island of Hawaii, was another favorite destination. His mornings always began with KDFC 90.3 on the FM dial, and when he retired and worked at the kitchen table, it played all day.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Athene Plastiras; and brothers, George and Drew Andrews. He is survived by his wife, Erika; his sons, Christopher and Alexander; his daughter, Livia; and son-in-law, Dr. John Selle; and the sunshine of his sunset years, granddaughter, Ryan Helena Selle, and grandson, Callum Hayes Selle.
While he will always be remembered for his incredible wit, intelligence and vitality, his gregarious nature and his forthrightness, it is his generous heart that will be most missed by his family and friends.
The family thanks his very special caregivers, Gio Magat, Jobi Huerta, Mele Tiuetti, Zomilo Dy, Armando Miranda Jr., and the wonderful staff at Silverado Memory Care Community in Belmont, CA.
A private service is planned.
If you wish, you may send a donation in his memory to: Alzheimer's Association, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, KDFC

My condolences to Andrea´s family Mr. Andres was one of the most elegant gracious, kind, family, loving man I´ve ever known I remember him as always being full of laughter and had such a love for his family and anyone who came into their home was part of their family. He was always so kind to me. He was a wonderful, wonderful man. I was lucky enough to get to go to feather River for a few years and Maui with with the family, it was always so much fun. It´s been many years since I´ve seen him. He´s hard to forget there was no one else like him. Well, Alex might come close. I always cherish all of those memories. I´m blessed to have known him.

Erika,

I am so sad to hear this news. My condolences to you and the family.

Arthur was a mentor to me since the day I met him at Jim Marshall's place on 16th in SF (late 1980s).

He was always generous with his time, knowledge and guidance, for that I will always be grateful!

I will truly miss him.

I met Arthur in the seventies

As a young man Arthur was quite intimidating to me. I remember running amok at Feather River and receiving stern reprimands for violating resort rules. But Arthur and my grandfather Harry were great friends and my older brothers ran around with Chris, "Zander" and Livia. I always looked forward to seeing the whole Andreas family every summer when Erika would compliment me on my eyelashes. When I got to return to FRPR as a married man and father, my relationship with Arthur turned into something else. I would always stop by the back porch of Cabin 12 after my morning workouts and have a cup of Joe with Arthur. We talked about my grandparents who are long gone and he gave me wonderful advice on being a husband and father. He was willing to take time with me and was always a caring host, making sure I was fed if I needed something. I also ran into many times at First Republic Bank at Laurel Village and we would spend an hour with the free coffee and cookies just chatting away in the lobby. Losing Arthur is like losing a member of my own family. I look forward to celebrating him this year at Feather River.

To my beloved dad,

I love you so very much. Thank you for being my rock!
I love your generous heart.
I am so impressed by your devoted dedication to our family.
I loved getting your advice on life.
You had the most handsome face- like a movie star!
Thanks for encouraging me to finish my education and paying for ALL of those years! For being SO generous and supportive.
I'm glad I got your looks (don´t tell mom).
I love how you lovingly called me "Lumpers and Lupshies and Lupendina."
And how you whistled while you were shaving every morning.
I never got tired of your voice. There's only ONE voice like yours.
I love how you were always there for me.
And how much you loved me. You didn´t need to say it because I felt it. Always.
If I had to describe you in two words, it would be BIG hearted.
Thanks for teaching me so many things dad.
I learned to ride a bike, play tennis and swing a golf club because of you.
I loved how you had a positive attitude every day!
I loved working in your offices WALKER & ANDREAS at 633 Battery Street as a teenager and grabbing lunch together.
I so admire your unwavering dedication to hard work and family.
I loved seeing the pleasure you took in being in the outdoors, especially the mountains up in Plumas, which you so aptly and reverently called "God's country." You inspired and taught me to truly love being in nature.
Your ability to talk to people and effortlessly command a room amazed me.
You were the most debonair and sophisticated man.
And I love how you never let things get you down. Ever.
You gave me the courage to be strong and stand up for myself. How could I not- growing up in your shadow- watching you in action.
I loved hearing stories about your childhood and Greek family and how much you loved and cherished your beloved father who took you on house calls to visit patients. A patient and quiet man, generous and kind, who brought shell shocked soldiers home from the V.A. and Letterman for dinner.
I wish I had known you when you were a kid. I know you were a handful but always had everyone's back.
I cherish the times you took me to the father/daughter dinner dances at the Olympic Club Lakeside.
I love the way you were always so happy when you were with our family.
And I love how you helped everyone around you, constantly connecting people.
I value your sage advice about everything.
I cherish the memories of listening to Chopin Piano waltzes, Edith Piaf, Dean Martin, and Anne Murray with you. Especially Bertie Higgins while driving in Feather River, where you had us all quiet down so you could blast it and share your passion for his music, enthusiastically singing along.
I'll always be grateful for your love and support and all of the good times we had together, especially at the end of your life, as difficult as it was to see you struggle, to still have happy moments on our special outings and adventures together with your grandson Callum.
Your smile. Your conspiratorial wink.
There is no one like you dad. And there never will be. Nobody else can charm and command a room like you.
You showed me how to be passionate about life.
And I love that you loved my children so deeply.
You deserve the best supportive dad award.
I strive to be wise as you one day.
I am SO grateful that you were my dad.
I don't know what I would have done without you and your love and devotion.
You just defied your age in every way. Youthful and vibrant beyond your years and diagnosis. Even to the end, you were able to transcend dementia; immediately recognizing me, with a broad smile on your face,"Hello, Sweetheart," We didn't have to speak. By staring into each other's eyes, we were able to understand what we meant to one another.
Thank you for everything dad!
For being there for me every step of the way and ALWAYS picking up the pieces and coming to my rescue. For loving me unconditionally, protecting and supporting me and giving me a wonderful life.
I love you more than anything dad!
You are the best dad ever!
And I can't wait to see you again someday.

Love always and forever,

Livia xoxo

Dear Erika and Family
Arthur was "one in a million", a gentleman at all times, kind, gracious, a top attorney and more. He had a good word for everyone. I met Arthur through some mutual Greek friends.......Arthur was their "go-to" attorney. Whenever his name came up, it was always with the highest of praise. He and Erika were a great looking couple May your memories be a blessing. Love to Erika and family.

Erika and family, I learned today that Arthur had passed away. I am very sorry for your loss.
I met Arthur in 1987 where he represented me,
then again in the middle 1990´s. He was an amazing lawyer and an even better human being.
Warm, wise, and charismatic, Arthur was fun to be around and I always learned something
when I was with him. I looked up to him, and he´ll
be missed by everyone who knew him.
