Arthur (Art) Paul Angst, age 84, died peacefully at San Francisco General Hospital on Friday May 17, 2024. Born March 15, 1940 to Edward and Pia Angst in Switzerland, where he lived with his mother, father, and sister Alda Angst. Art's father Edward moved to the United States where he found work as a chef. Art came to the United States at the age of 17 with his mother and sister and attended Jefferson High School where he graduated in 1958.
After graduating high school, found work at Southern Pacific Railroad, where he worked for 36 years. He also served in the United States Army for a few years, including postings in Alaska and later Geneva, New York, where he met Kathleen (Kathy) McCann in 1966. After a whirlwind romance, Art and Kathy married and soon after moved to Pacifica, CA where Art and Kathy raised their three children. Art and Kathy were blessed to celebrate their 55th anniversary in April 2021.
Art was a kind and generous man who loved traveling, camping, and cooking for his family. He enjoyed going for walks by the Pacifica pier. He also enjoyed cheering on the 49ers, Giants, and Cal Bears. He had recently visited Yosemite with Jennifer and attended his first ever SF Giants opening day with Jeff. He was clearly living his best life until the end.
As part of the Pacifica community, Art was an active member of St. Peter's Parish -- first as a CCD teacher and later as a Pastoral Associate. He also enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also a member of the Pacific senior center, where he regularly enjoyed lunch and social activities, as well as serving on the Seniors in Action council.
Art was predeceased by his wife, Kathy, and is survived by his sister Alda, daughters Deborah and Jennifer, son Jeffrey, and his five grandchildren. He will be missed by his extended family, friends, and parish community.
Family and friends are invited to attend services at St. Peter's Church in Pacifica on Friday, June 7th. There will be a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m.
