Arthur Rosenberg Obituary

Arthur Rosenberg
August 20, 1924 - March 7, 2023
Arthur "Art" Rosenberg, born in New York City on August 20, 1924, died peacefully at home on March 7, 2023 surrounded by his family. As a child in New York, Art helped to support his family by shining shoes and selling newspapers. Bright and athletic, he attended City College of New York and eventually rose to become comptroller for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. His work took him to Germany, Georgia, Texas, New York City and Hawaii. He retired to San Francisco, where he spent the last 45 years of his life.
Art was passionately progressive, an avid tennis, basketball, and ping pong player, and an ardent Golden State Warriors basketball fan. He loved telling stories and could find a song for any occasion. His greatest joy in life, however, was time spent with his family. Art was blessed with a charming sense of humor and was warm, gentle, and generous. He was an expert advice giver, always encouraging and supportive, described by his step-granddaughter as "basically, the best person in the world."
Art had a long and happy 50-year marriage to his first wife Trudy, who, along with his two sisters Helen and Ruth, predeceased him. At the tender age of 80, Art married his second wife Ammie and spent the past 18 years as an honorary member of the Filipino community. Art is survived by his wife Ammie, three children, two step-children, five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, along with nephews, nieces and close family friends, many of whom thought of him as a second father.
Remembrances and donations can be sent to the World Jewish Congress, Dominican Sisters Vision of Hope, or the charity of your choice.

Art, you were one of the most amazing interesting people I have ever met. I´ll forever miss your long winded stories that brought me to another lifetime, and listening to Artie Shaw vinyls. During your many stories, I found myself reminiscing over times I´ve never lived in yet felt so close to. I´m so happy my last memory of you was making homemade lasagna, which you devoured with two healthy servings of wine. You knew how to live life to the fullest, and it´s clear that people around you knew that and you loved you beyond comprehension. You taught me many words of wisdom, my favorite will forever be "religion and politics aren´t table talk". Words can express my love for you and your family. I´ll miss you so much
