Barbara is a sixth generation Californian, and a descendant of Ignacio Martinez who was the fourth mayor of San Francisco and after whom the City of Martinez is named. She is preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Winifred Marcos and her first husband Thomas Lowry.
Raised in El Cerrito, she attended Fairmont School, El Cerrito High School and San Jose State.
Active in the community, she was Executive Secretary of the El Cerrito Chamber of Commerce for 25 years, Owner/Manager of Betty's Gift Shop El Cerrito Plaza, member of the El Cerrito Parks and Recreation Commission, El Cerrito Historical Society, Acorn Branch of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, a Life long member of St. Jerome Church and was a volunteer/performer in the early years of the Contra Costa Civic Theatre.
Barbara was an avid sports fan, supporting Cal, 49ers, SF Giants and Warriors for many years. She also loved motorcycle rides with Bob, her husband of 42 years, as they traveled through 18 states across the United States and Canada.
She treasured her many long-time friends and all the years of fun and laughter they shared together. Her home was open to all. The birthdays, holidays, graduations, pool parties and weddings were enjoyed by friends and neighbors alike.
Barbara is survived by her husband Bob Bacon, daughters Lisa Ihnken (Jan) Lesley Carbajal (Jason) and son John Lowry: grandchildren Thomas, Olivia, Sofia Carbajal, Madelon, Emily Lowry, Lucy Ihnken: her sister Marcia Fausset, brother Michael Marcos, nieces Laura Fausset, Julie Morton (Dale) and nephew Scott Fausset
(Betsey) son Tony, daughter Nicole.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Acorn Branch UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, the Leukemia/Lymphoma Association or your favorite charity.
