July 4th, 1937 - April 9th, 2013
Long time Piedmont resident Barbara "Bunny" Caldwell died April 9, 2013 after a two and one-half year gutsy battle with brain cancer. Bunny died peacefully at home with her soul mate Bill, her daughters, Elizabeth and Jennifer, Elizabeth's husband Shelton, Jennifer's partner Hulett, her granddaughters, Schuyler and Charlotte, Bill's sister Peggy, her Maid of Honor, Sally Hoskins and caregivers Anna and Jaerlin all by her side. Bunny was unbelievably brave throughout her cancer journey, and she handled all the victories and disappointments along the way with grace and dignity.
While Bunny's life ended earlier than one would hope, she did have a great ride. When you enter the cancer arena, and observe during each hospital visit the heartbreak and sorrow that cancer causes to children, young mothers and fathers, and other younger adults, you quickly appreciate how fortunate and grateful you are that so many blessings have come your way.... a fabulous 53 year marriage, two wonderful daughters, two terrific granddaughters, lived in nice towns, enjoyed a rewarding career, and were honored to have so many exceptional friends. Bunny loved to play golf and bridge, enjoyed her garden and was fond of just hanging out. She will miss her golf buddies, bridge pals, garden club ladies and dear friends very much. Our entire family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation for everyone's positive support, encouragement, prayers, and kindness...it was simply extraordinary and inspirational.
In addition to the family members mentioned above, Bunny is survived by her 99 year old mother, Ellen, three first cousins: Bob Burt of Orinda, Dick Burt of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Doug Burt of Santa Ana, sister-in-law Anne, brother-in-law Jim, and seven nieces and nephews.
At Bunny's request, no formal services were held. The family would appreciate contributions in her memory be made to the National Brain Tumor Society (www.braintumor.org/) or, since Bunny loved dogs so much, to the SPCA in your area.
Love doesn't make the world go around...
Love is what makes the ride worthwhile!

Sad news. I'll remember Bunny as a classmate, friend and cheerleader in highschool, cheering our team on, hanging out and dating her. A real neat gal. She and her family will be in my prayers. Hope to see her in heaven. God has blessed us. Mike Miller
