Barbara Kroopf Obituary

Barbara "Bobbie" Kroopf June 20, 1922 - February 7, 2008 84, wife of Dr. Stanford S. Kroopf, passed away at the Stanford Hospital on Thursday, February 7 after a short illness. Bobbie was born in Boston where she met her husband Stan, the love of her life. After World War II, they headed west, eventually settling in the Bay Area. A vibrant and loving young mother, Bobbie raised her three children: Connie, Sandy and Scott - while Stan became an eminent doctor in Palo Alto. Together, they created a home life that was filled with both athletic and intellectual pursuits - golf and tennis could be followed by discussions about politics, religion, books or movies. With her considerable charm and irrepressible sense of humor, that home became a magnet for friends and family alike. Bobbie was also a beloved, active member of her community, volunteering her time to Little House, Allied Arts and countless medical charities. Selfless and steadfast to her numerous lifelong friends, Bobbie was empathetic, compassionate and endlessly fun. She was an adoring and adored grandmother and great-grandmother to Kelly, Marnie, Jackson, Nora, Wyatt, Rowan and Jordan. She cheered at their games, laughed at their jokes and taught them to play dominoes. Bobbie never forgot a holiday and enthusiastically celebrated every milestone, big and small. Stan and Bobbie's 65-year marriage was a love affair, a friendship and a true union of kindred souls. Bobbie was an extraordinary force of life. She will never be forgotten by any who knew her. Her unconditional love and joyful spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by Stan, Connie, Sandy, Scott, Kristine and Lisa, Jackie, Anna and Luz and all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and family. Her Memorial Service will be on Sunday, February 17 at 3:00 pm at Roller, Hapgood Funeral Chapel on 980 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Heart Association. We love you Bugsy.

Mrs Kroopf was kind and generous to me as a child frequently visiting the Kroopf home to swim and play with my Friend Sandy Kroopf, her son. My own mother had a long aquaintance with Mrs Kroopf and fatefully both were in Stanford Hospital simultaneously. I was sorry to hear about Sandy's mom. I am moved all the more, even though not having seen Sandy in many years, about the loss of his mother as my own very soon will be missed in the same inevitable way. Allow my sincere sympathy and well wishes to extend to Sandy and the entire Kroopf family.
