Bart Tabor Obituary

Bart Tabor Dec. 5, 1952 - Sept. 26, 2008 Resident of Alamo Bartlett MacDonald Tabor will forever be remembered by his adoring family and friends. His contagious adventurous spirit will live on through those he helped discover their own sense of adventure and the many people he touched so deeply. Bart passed away suddenly, from injuries sustained in a tragic accident in which he was a taxi passenger, leaving family and friends bereft. The accident occurred in Washington, DC, while on a joint business trip and vacation with his family. He greeted this world in Pasadena, CA, on December 5, 1952, the devoted second son of Patrick MacDonald Tabor and Margaret Maze Behr. He was also raised with the loving guidance of his stepparents Carole Applegate and Otho Moring Behr Jr. In 1970, he graduated from Laguna Beach High School in Laguna Beach, CA. Following a year at Philips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH, he went on to graduate with a BA in economics from Claremont McKenna College in 1976. He was with Applegate Drayage in Nevada for several years before he went on to obtain his MBA in finance at UCLA Anderson School of Management in 1984. Bart lived life enthusiastically and was never one to sit idle. He was devoted to family, held deep loyalties, and was highly responsible with a strong sense of purpose. He was often referred to as "an anchor" and as "a man who has your back". Bart's playful spirit, the twinkle in his eyes and handsome dimples, were invitation to delight in his quick wit and clever pranks. Among his favorite adventures were his many waterfowl hunting trips with his father, friends, and, most recently, with his son, Joe, and daughter, Jessie. His many passions included family ski trips, fly and salmon fishing trips, mountain biking, camping with his family and his latest interest, ATV riding with his son. A dedicated employee to several companies throughout his career, including First Interstate, LJ Melody & Co., CB Richard Ellis, and GMAC Commercial Mortgage, his talent and hard work garnered many promotions and success. Bart was serving as senior vice president, managing director, branch manager for Capmark Finance, Inc. at the time of his demise. Bart leaves behind his loving wife of 11 years, Katherine; his adorable son, Joseph; and his darling daughter, Jessica, all of Alamo, CA. He is also survived by his older brother, Thomas Tabor and his partner Ross, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his younger brother, Gifford Tabor and wife Anna Carolina, of Coconut Grove, FL; his half-sister, Judy Hensley and her husband Jim of Napa, CA; stepmother, Carole Applegate of Scottsburg, OR; step-brothers Otho Behr III and his wife, Deborah, of Henderson, NV; Fred Behr of Laguna Beach, CA; niece Kiana; and three nephews, Patrick, Michael and Justin. He was also deeply loved by his in-laws including his mother-in-law Shirley Kvarda of Walnut Creek, CA; Teresa and Roger De Bruno of Calabasas, CA; Michael Kvarda and his children Ashley, Sean, and Tressa, of Thousand Oaks, CA; David and Laurie Kvarda and their children, Brandon, Taylor and Samantha, of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Karen and Trevor Bechtel, of San Jose, CA, and Lisa Kvarda and Chris Quenelle and their daughter, Casey, of Santa Clara, CA. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his stepfather; and his father-in-law, Joseph C. Kvarda. Bart leaves all who knew him with fond memories of their wonderful times together and his passion for humor and adventure. Friends, family and colleagues are welcome at a memorial service to be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, 4:00pm at Round Hill Country Club, 3169 Round Hill Road in Alamo, CA. In lieu of flowers, Bart's family requests donations be made in remembrance of Bart to one of the following charitable organizations: National Scoliosis Foundation (NSF), 5 Cabot Place, Stoughton, MA 02072, www.scoliosis.org; Ducks Unlimited Inc, One Waterfowl Way, Memphis, TN 38120, www.ducks.org; or California Waterfowl Association, 4630 Northgate Boulevard, Suite 350, Sacramento, CA 95834, www.calwaterfowl.org.

I knew Bart from UCLA and we reconnected after we both landed up in Northern California. Having gone through a number of company changes at the same time, we would often get together to talk about family, business and life. He was a devoted family man and a great friend. He will be deeply missed. My prayers for the family at this tragedy. May God comfort them as only He can.

My wife Debbie and I were saddened to hear of Bart's passing. We had met him a few times during our college years, as his older brother Tom is a fraternity brother of mine. Our prayers are with Bart's family.

My sincerest sympathy to the entire family, what a tragic loss of a wonderful man. Bart's father and mine were college buddies and we did a few family hunts together when we were young lads. More recently, Bart and I crossed paths at CBRE several times and I always had the highest respect for him as a gentleman first and also in business. You are all in my prayers, especially Katherine, Joseph and Jessica, and my fraternity brother Tom.

My deepest condolences to the Tabor/Behr family. My sister lives in Danville, and e-mailed me regarding Bart. I knew Bart from Laguna Beach High School/Class of 1971. When I was a cheerleader/Songleader. I remember him as a good football player and he loved to go to Santa Barbara to surf. I am sorry for your loss. Bobo Johns Foster

I met Bart through his children, Joe and Jessie, as their first grade teacher at Guadalupe Elementary School in San Jose, CA. I recall his wit and sense of humor as I met with the parents during parent/teacher conferences and other school events. I am saddened to hear of this tragic accident that has affected this wonderful family. My condolences to Kathy, Joe, and Jessie.
