Bruce Montgomerie Obituary

Bruce Z. Montgomerie, MD
October 21, 1963 - October 27, 2022
In his life, he was a healer, physician, husband, father, friend, and son. Bruce was born in New Zealand, and grew up in Santa Monica, CA. He attended Venice High School, UCLA, and UC Davis Medical School. Bruce completed a residency in Pediatrics at the University of Utah.
Bruce knew by age 9 that he wanted to be a physician. He was devoted to the children he cared for in his medical practice and spent every day thinking about patients and how to help them. He was a gifted healer for many who crossed his path. He was intelligent, well-read, and highly attuned to children and their needs. His calming presence soothed many a tired mom and frazzled toddler. He worked hard every day and was a responsible provider-something he took great pride in. He was an athlete; played tennis and squash; and was an avid runner. He spent many hours hiking and running in the forests of Sonoma County. Nature was a great solace to him, and he loved gardening at his home. Bruce was also a talented musician and played the piano and oboe. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was well known for his Goofy and Donald Duck voices-as well as a great impersonation of Elvis singing "Love Me Tender".
Bruce was a tender and affectionate father and husband. He was loved dearly by many and will be forever missed. He left us all too early. He is survived by his loving wife, Anita; devoted children, Angela, Zachary, and Claire; and his caring father John (Sylvia). He is also survived by many loving family members and friends. With love and tenderness for Bruce forever.

Bruce was my daughter´s pediatrician in West Valley City, Utah. I too was a frazzled Mom´s as well. My daughter loved him. When she was in Preschool, we found a Halloween costume that looked like a pair of Scrubs! The costume came with a stethoscope. She wanted to me to take a picture and print it off and give it to Dr . Montgomerie! Which I did, because my family loved Bruce.

While at one of our visits, I see this picture of my daughter with several other patients pictures on a cork board near his desk. I appreciated that he put the picture of her there.
When he said he was moving back to California, I cried. Because he was such a good doctor.

I am truly sorry for your loss.

I just learned today of Dr. Montgomerie's death. This was a man who really and truly CARED. I was one of the many, many "frazzled moms" with toddlers that he soothed and cared for. He always went above and beyond in his care, and I appreciated so much that he was always willing to take the time needed with my children and find fun ways to help them feel safe. From his whistling to his funny sound effects when looking in their ears, he made a doctor's visit something to look forward to instead of something to fear. I hope he and his family know how very loved and appreciated he was, and still is!

I just saw this news, too late. So shocked and saddened he was such a nice man and caring doctor. Dr. Montgomerie was our first son´s pediatrician until we moved everyone to family medicine with the birth of our second son in September 2022. Never got the chance to properly thank him! Wishing peace for his soul and for his friends & family.

We are devastated to hear this news. He was my kid's pediatrician up until this point. He was always so gentle, caring, warm and attentive with them. He took the time to get to know them and us and was a great listener. Our heart breaks for his family. He has been in our thoughts often.

Dr. Montgomerie was one of the best doctors I´ve ever met, and such a kind and compassionate man. He was my son´s pediatrician for the first 2 1/2 years of his life, which included surgery, hospitalizations, and lots of other health issues. Needless to say, we were in communication quite often, and he was so amazing and understanding, and will be deeply missed, by both my son and I.

This is one of the saddest obituaries I've ever read in my long life. I was really enjoying reading about this wonderful man's focus in life and how he was so devoted to his young patients and their families. And then: he took his life at 59. My heart just sank and my eyes filled with tears, as I said "no, that can't be." Oh, the pain of depression and anxiety. As one who lost a brother to suicide at age 41, the loss is so great, and one never really recovers fully from it. May those that need it most, find peace in the loss of this wonderful young man, and comfort in knowing of all those lives who he touched so positively. May God send His tender love to those affected by this huge loss. Sincerely, Judith from Santa Rosa

Bruce was my brother Jonathan's friend before my brother passed away at age 15 of heart disease. I remember the two of them playing lots in the backyards. We always enjoyed Bruce. He grew up in a wonderful family. I was sorry to hear of his passing.
