We mourn the passing of Bruno Franchetti, who peacefully departed this life at his home on March 2, 2024, at the age of 94.
Born in Castione Andevenno, Italy, on January 27, 1930, Bruno moved to the United States with his mother, Anita Franchetti, at the age of nine, to reunite with his father, Livio Franchetti, in Crockett, Calif. After settling in San Rafael, he graduated from San Rafael High School with a remarkable achievement that endured well into the 21st century: his record-breaking 1320-yard race in 1946.
After high school, Bruno enlisted in the Marines and served in the Korean War's major battles, earning two Purple Hearts for his bravery. He later studied economics at San Francisco State University before embarking on a 40-year career as a contract analyst at Chevron.
In San Francisco, Bruno met and married his wife, Elinor, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage and four children, John, Steve, Suzanne, and Anne-Marie. The family lived overseas in Belgium for five years and England for six, until they settled in Mill Valley, Calif.
Bruno's life was marked by integrity, honesty, and was a devoted family man. He approached every aspect of life with a commitment to excellence, whether it was reading stock reports, tending to his garden, or cheering on his favorite sports teams: The San Francisco 49ers and The San Francisco Giants. Retirement brought new adventures for Bruno and Elinor, including travel, cruises, and spending time with loved ones, especially their grandchildren, Luca, Alina, Riley, and Jayden.
Even in Bruno's' final days, his infectious smile brightened the lives of those around him. Bruno's passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him, but his love, honesty, and values will endure. Bruno Franchetti will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Mission San Rafael Archangel at 1:00 p.m., on April 13, 2024, followed by a reception at Il Davide. If you plan to attend, please call (415) 370-4988. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Marine Memorial Fund or the Wounded Warriors.
