Calvin was such a giving person who wanted you to be really welcomed and he showed this numerous times with action not only words. I remember the time he went with me to a Kiss concert in Sacramento even though he wasn't into heavy metal he made sure I enjoyed myself. He was such a warm person who spoke softly with a lot of care in his words. My last memory of Calvin was the last time I was in the States and he came and saw me off with my cousin John and we had a McDonalds. We talked about our dreams and it was like yesterday and he was forever optimistic. Being eternally optimistic is one of the things I have learned from him and incorporated in my life. We all need to live each day to the full with hope and optimism as he did.

You left us too soon dad. We still had so much to learn about life from you dad and now that you're no longer here, you will never see us grow. I know you'll be watching over us but nothing is the same without you. You did everything for us and we will truly cherish and miss that about you. We will miss your laugh and your nagging. You were the best dad and our hero, and the best husband to mom. We love you very much. :(

I had the privilege to work with Cal his entire career at CalTrans.
We had many funny, heartfelt,and sometimes scary escapades working together on the Bay Bridge.
We were more like brothers than co-workers. He was a very special guy and the world will truly miss his presence.

I had the honor to have known Calvin from Galileo High School several years back. He was always mature and a very pleasant person to be around. After we graduated from High School we still kept in touch. We were fortunate to stay in San Francisco and that made it easy to keep the great relationship we had. Calvin's son and my son were classmates and good friends from the public school system up through high school. He would always tell me that our kids life is so different from the way we grew up. Kids have such a easy life with all the latest technologies while our life growing up was so simple. Calvin would always kid me about working in the Waste Water Treatment Plant. He would tell me that his water/sewage bill rate was climbing because we were getting too many salary raises at the Poo Poo Plant. I am very grateful to have been Calvin's friend for around 45 years. His honesty and good heart made him an ideal police officer. My sincere condolences to his family. He will be miss.

May the road rise up to meet you;
May the wind be always at your back;
May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rain fall soft upon your fields;
And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
God's speed my friend.

Calvin and I have gone a long way back to the days in Galileo. He was always a clean cut guy and wasn't mischievous like some of us was. We were able to see each other quite often as times went by. Calvin's son and my son were classmates and good friends in the public school system in San Francisco. We would always look back and say our kids got it made. Their lives are so much easier and different than ours with all this technologies, etc. Calvin would always kid around with me and said his water and sewage bill were getting higher. Your salary must be going up at the poo poo plant and that's why my bill is climbing. He had a great sense of humor and a really good heart. The people at SFO will really miss Officer Calvin Tom an officer that really gave his heart out. My complete condolences to the family in this difficult time.

Calvin and I almost ran into each other at work riding the Segways. Calvin joked, "You almost ran an old man off the road." And from then on whenever he would see me, Calvin would pretend to run away and say, "Stay away from me. You Leongs are dangerous. I can't get away from them" and he would walk away laughing. I will miss his smile and funny sense of humor.

Calvin and I go way back to the days of Marina Jr. Hi and Galileo in the late 1960's. Although I have not seen him for a few years, he is certainly the type of person you meet once in a lifetime whom you can never forget. His friendliness and willingness to lend a hand to help others are in line with his chosen profession at SFPD. My condolences go out to his family. May God give them comfort and guidance through this very difficult period.
