Carmelo DiGrande Obituary

Carmelo DiGrande
04/02/1945 - 06/01/2024
Carmelo DiGrande, of San Francisco, CA, passed away on June 1,2024 from progression of advanced Alzheimer's disease. He was 79 years old.
Carmelo was born on April 2,1945 to Luigi DiGrande and Lucia Spinali of Augusta, Sicily. The family came to America in 1956, settling in North Beach, San Francisco. Carmelo graduated from Galileo High School, where he excelled in sports, achieving the "Most Valuable Player" status for baseball. While a young teen, Carmelo met the love of his life, Barbra Jo Romero.
Upon graduation, Carmelo served in the U.S. Army Reserves, worked with his brothers Salvatore & Giuseppe in the restaurants and together, with his wife, Barbara, built a beauty business in North Beach, "Marco of Venice". Carmelo and Barbara were married for 17 years and thru a sad chain of events, later divorced. Carmelo never stopped loving her and years later, returned to his beloved Barbara, spending the final years of her life together.
Carmelo loved all sports (tennis, baseball, soccer, football), good food, fine wines, world history, a good debate, driving his muscle car, coffee with friends at "The Fountains" and the much-loved family dog, "Lola".
Carmelo retired to Roseville, CA, where he lived with his brother, Frank and sister-in-law, Angela. He is survived by his brothers, Guiseppe, Vince and Frank; and his many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 15th, 11:00 A.M. at the Italian Cemetery Chapel in Colma, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Association.

We will always remember Carmelo with good times and fond memories. We will remember him singing and laughing in the kitchen at By the Square restaurant where he was chef.
Rest in peace friend.
