Carol Azeveda Obituary

Carol G. Azeveda

December 1943 - November 2015

Carol Azeveda, care-free daughter of the Blueridge Mountains, West Virginia, and a high-spirited Abs Valley Southern belle, left us at 71-years young for a bigger and better hand on Thursday evening, November 19, 2015 surrounded by love.

Carol exemplified that Virginia is not only for lovers, but produces amazing lovers. She brought her love West where she and husband John found each other and enjoyed a happy life together.

While in San Francisco Carol was I. Magnin's Executive Secretary for over 16 years. One could say that Carol added style to the Executive office. She got things done in the way Carol does and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. The Jewish Federation welcomed Carol's tenacity for 13 years that followed where she retired in 2008 as Executive Assistant to the CEO.

Carol, a Queen of Hearts, was passionate about playing Bridge, caring for homeless cats, traveling, and fashion. In her fashionable wide brim hats, one would find Carol playing Bridge or sitting poolside as she and John loved to travel.

Carol left her heart and touched all of our hearts in San Francisco. Carol is survived by her devoted and loving husband John Azeveda of 38 years, son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Beth Azeveda, granddaughter Vanessa, sisters Nancy and Judy, brother Eddie, nieces, nephews, and numerous caring friends. Carol now dances and dines with parents, Joe and Dorothy Goss, brother Jerome, and friends waiting on her to bid the next hand.

Memorial service on December 3 at 3:00 PM at St. Dominic's Church chapel (2390 Bush St, San Francisco). A private celebration of Carol's life for family and friends to follow at 5:00 PM in the Presidio. For more info, contact [email protected].

Donations may be made in Carol's memory to the SPCA, Catholic Charities, Jewish Community Federation Women's Fund, or Susan G. Komen's Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Dear John,

Carol was certainly an amazing assistant to Steve while he was at I magnin but she became a family member to the rest of the Somers clan. She was always there to support, organize and take good care of us. The kids all knew to call her first if we were out of town and they needed anything. Fond memories of that wonderful raspy voice when she picked up the phone - I can here her right now saying: "Steve Somers office" when we always knew it was really her office!

She loved you - as we loved her.

In the many years we worked together and were friends outside of work, we created the "Trolley Dollies". We would take lunch excursions to the wharf for crab sandwiches and fun. We even took minutes! I believe Carol was the President and I was the Secretary.

Just one of my many happy memories of Carol. Ask me about our trip to Los Vegas sometime-woooooo!

We shared some fun times with Carol and John and Matt in a house in Truckee. Carol didn't try to keep up with John and Matt in skiing. Smart woman. She was more comfortable with a good book and a warm fire. She showed her grit when dealing with a structural threat to their house while John was off taking care of emergency work after the Loma Prieta earthquake.

Carol is still the star of style and she'd always laugh so hard and smile when I'd say "3-6-9, the fools drank wine, the monkey chewed tobacco on the streetcar line, the line broke, the monkey got choked and they all went together in a little row boat", so that's for you, you precious doll.

Always elegant...always smart! Always your best friend forever. In all ways she will be greatly missed...With love your Best Friend Forever, Judy

November 22, 2015

Elegant? Ms. Carol was the picture of elegance. She would welcome us into her home with the grace every Southern woman wishes she had, but Ms. Carol owned it. Draping her long limbs around a kitchen chair and sparking a smoke. And she would laugh. Her laughter ringing like the true Southern Belle that she was. Bing! Bing! Bing!

Virginia and we in San Francisco are now missing one star in the sky -- but when we look into the night, we will remember Ms. Carol. With love.
