Carole Lipton Obituary

Carole Astri Lipton

Sunrise: June 29, 1939 - Sunset: August 10, 2015

Carole Lipton of Hillsborough, CA was born in San Francisco to Josvald and Astrid Robertson. She is predeceased by her parents and brother, Gordon Roberston (Annette). She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.
Carole was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High and Mt. Zion School of Nursing, earning her R.N. in 1961. Later she became head nurse of pediatrics on the Ship Hope in Nicaragua. After working at St. Luke's pediatrics, she became a head nurse at Mt. Zion pediatrics clinic. Blessed with a beautiful voice, she sang with the "Lamplighters" in San Francisco, 1964-65.
In 1968, Carole wed Dr. Marvin Lipton. Together, they had two sons, Dr. Edward Lipton (Johanna) and Dr. Jason Lipton (Jennifer). She was a much-loved step-mother to Mitchell Lipton (Rhonda) and Stephen Lipton (Cathy). She was a beloved Grandmother to William, Olivia, Elizabeth, Nathan and Brian. She was also loved and respected by her step-grandchildren: Joshua, Michael, Jordan and David, as well as many nieces and nephews.
After her nursing career, she became devoted to her family and community. She participated as: Past President of West School Parent Group; Founding Member of Hillsborough Schools Foundation; Co-Chairman Hillsborough Concourse; Mt. Zion Ladies Auxiliary Board; and Ladies Auxiliary Norwegian Club. She also volunteered in various capacities helping mentally disabled persons; Shelter Network; Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind; and was active on the Mt. Zion Alumnus Board.
Carole was a lifelong devoted mother and wife. She never missed a swim meet or a water polo game. Carole was known among her sons' friends as the "Brownie Mom" as she brought brownies after every game. Carole drove their motor home on many trips across the country, visiting state and national parks with her family. She and Marvin traveled and danced around the world. They spent much time in Maui, Hawaii. In her later years, she was active in her book club with a group of ladies she had known for over forty years, the "Painters." She kept in close contact with co-workers from nursing school, friends from the Norwegian club, the "Swim Moms," and friends of she and Marvin's, affectionately referred to as the "Doctors Group." Carole loved to dress and decorate her house for the season or holiday. One could look at her kitchen towel to know which holiday was coming next. She made every occasion a festive one.
She'll best be remembered by her quick wit, bright smile, sparkling blue eyes, and perfectly coiffed blond hair. She was a woman of great wisdom, practicality, and was always willing to lend a hand. Being around her family, especially her grandchildren, made her the happiest.
Church Affiliation: SF Norwegian Lutheran and Peninsula Temple Shalom, Burlingame.
At her request, services were private. Donations in her name can be made to Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind, 968 Easton Rd., Ste. H, Warrington, PA 18976 or www.israelguidedog.org.
She was loved by all who knew her and enriched all the lives she touched. She will be sorely missed. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
