Caroline Camozzi Obituary

Caroline Rose Camozzi

Resident of Walnut Creek

Aug 16, 1936 – Feb 5, 2014

Died suddenly and unexpectedly early Wednesday morning after suffering a ruptured aneurysm.

Caroline was born in Oakland to Italian immigrants and did not speak English until she entered kindergarten.  She was raised in Albany, CA and graduated Albany High in 1954.  In 1956 she married Ilvo, the love of her life.  After starting a family, Caroline returned to school to earn her undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley and her reading specialist teaching credential at Cal State Hayward.  Caroline was the first in her family to attend a university.

Caroline spent her teaching career in the West Contra Costa Unified School District teaching reading and English as a second language (ESL) to the young people of Richmond, CA.  After her retirement, Caroline spent her time enjoying her husband, her grandchildren and her books.  Caroline's love of youth literacy lead her back to school where for the past two years she has worked as a library volunteer at St. Mary's School in Walnut Creek.

Caroline is reunited in death with her beloved husband, Ilvo.  She is survived by her children Anne (Hal) Bogerd of Durham, North Carolina, John (Cheryl) Camozzi of Walnut Creek, and Natalie (David Clemens) Camozzi of Martinez, her grandchildren Jake and Emma Bogerd and Micaela and Nicolas Camozzi, her siblings Bruno (Elizabeth) Motta, Sandra Motta Muir and Alexander Motta, her nephews, great nephew and great niece, and her countless friends.  Her loving and nurturing spirit and her love of talking will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Friends and family are invited to the funeral service on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette and the reception to follow in Walnut Creek.  In lieu of flowers, donations to further her work in youth literacy may be made to the St. Mary's School Library, 1158 Bont Lane, Walnut Creek, CA  94596.

Very sorry for your loss. I worked with Caroline at Richmond High School. She was very smart, conscientious, and hard working for the benefit of kids. Wonderful little laugh and smile.

Sorry for your loss. We've only seen Caroline and Ilvo a few times over the years, but they always embraced us warmly and we enjoyed "catching up." We'll remember the good conversations and lots of laughs. You felt their genuine and caring way.

In my mind I always thought of your parents as a team--Ilvo and Caroline. They were dear sweet souls and gave much joy to everyone they met. Though your mom will be dearly missed, she now joins Ilvo in love after life.

Absolutely shocked, we talked to her on the phone about one week before. We were planning to go to the Bay Area soon, so we would have visited with her then. Our Condolences to all of you.
She will be missed.
