Carolyn LeTourneau Obituary

Carolyn E. LeTourneau

January 19, 1942 – September 21, 2014

Carolyn passed away peacefully in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Terry LeTourneau. Dearly beloved mother of Michelle (Gene), loving grandmother of Chloe, devoted sister of Bob (Sueann) Schumann, caring sister in-law of John (Dotti) LeTourneau, Marijane LeTourneau, Raymond LeTourneau, Lisa (Mike) Alvernaz, and Kate (Russell) Hantman. She is also survived by her nephew and Godson, Bobby Schumann, and six nieces.

A third generation San Franciscan, Carolyn attended St. Cecilia Grammar School, Mercy High School and Lone Mountain College, where she majored in English and minored in Music, feeding her lifelong love of classical piano.

Carolyn taught for 38 years in the Laguna Salada School District in Pacifica, touching the lives of thousands of elementary age students. Her passion and inspiration in the classroom extended to her role as mother, aunt and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by those who benefitted from her role in their lives.

Carolyn met Terry, the love of her life, in their native San Francisco. They fell immediately in love and started a life together that took full advantage of all the City and its surrounding area have to offer. Avid art lovers, they frequented the SF Symphony and Opera, and though her dedication to the outdoors wasn't quite on par with her husband's, Carolyn trekked and travelled at his side up mountains and through valleys from Lake Tahoe to Yosemite.

Devotion to family was the driving force in Carolyn. Her granddaughter Chloe was the light of her life in her last years, and the role of proud grandmother was one Carolyn both thrived in and deeply cherished.

Friends are invited to visit after 6:30 pm on Monday 29th, and attend a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at St. Cecilia Church, San Francisco. A Funeral Mass will celebrate Carolyn's life on Tuesday 30th at 11:00 am at St. Cecilia Church. The burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.

When I think of Carolyn, I think of happy memories of her during the St. Brendan days! She was so warm and thoughtful, everytime I saw her always asking about everyone in my life. I think of what a wonderful and dedicated mother she was, an excellent example to all moms. She will be missed but I know her loving spirit will live on! XOXO Emily
