Carrie Dixon Obituary

Carrie Ann Dixon

Surrounded by the love of her husband Gregor and family who absolutely adored her, our beloved Carrie left this world on October 19, 2016 after a long illness. Born on August 13, 1957 in Washington, DC, Carrie was the daughter of Ellen and Malcolm Garfink. Carrie spent her youth in Potomac, MD and graduated from T.S. Wootton High School in 1975. She went on to Dartmouth College as a member of the school's third co-ed class where she graduated in 1979 with a degree in Cultural Anthropology. Following graduation, she lived briefly in Boston before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area where she spent the rest of her life. Carrie worked for ten years in the wine industry. Then in 1994 she began a career with Allied Administrators, initially as a programmer, working her way up to Director of Operations.

Carrie will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, open-heartedness, and wonderful sense of humor. She had a keen mind, was an avid reader and had an enduring love and knowledge of rock and roll. Carrie was a terrific aunt. Her nieces and nephews remember her for the unconditional love she bestowed on them. Carrie adored her dog Zoe who brought her incredible joy and companionship.

We cherish a lifetime of memories and will hold her in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her husband Gregor Dixon, her sisters, Julie Donaldson and Christine Pizer, and brothers Charlie, Steve and Mick Garfink, and by her nieces Katie Fallow Gottlieb, Matina Donaldson-Matasci, Emily Donaldson, Linden Avalos, Caroline Garfink, Jessica Perrin, Anna Garfink, Meghan Garfink, and Olivia Dixon, nephews Greg Donaldson and Adam Dixon, great nieces Annabel and Claire Fallow Gottlieb and Irene Matasci, her mother-in-law Helen Dixon and her sisters-in-law, Joanne Webster, Lisa Perrin, Cecilia Dixon, Georgia Trefts, Terry Garfink, and brothers-in-law Rob Donaldson, Hank Pizer, Andrew Dixon, and Steve Perrin.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Milo Foundation in Carrie's memory will be appreciated.

When I knew Carrie, and you Greg, we were all in our twenties or early thirties. I remember her quiet joy, her love of music and nature. I remember a grounded sense of self that was not as present in many of us as we grappled with "finding ourselves". I will never forget her. I am so sorry for the pain you are suffering.

Carrie will be very missed by Donald and Barbara Webster. We loved her very much even to adopt her one Christmas Eve after a night of lobster and fine wine. We love you Carrie and Greg.
