Celia Wiss
October 22, 1928 - April 23, 2023
On Sunday April 23, 2023, Celia Wiss, beloved wife, mother, sister, Abby, aunt, and friend to many passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Celia was born in 1928 in Callao, Peru, the oldest of three children, and the last surviving child of her loving parents Roberto and Celia Peralta. Celia leaves behind her three sons Carl Wiss (Kathy), Dan Wiss (Theresa), and Andy Wiss (Michelle); five grandchildren, Samantha Wiss, Nicholas Wiss, Miranda Casey, Lauren Wiss, Anna Wiss, great granddaughter Paige Casey, and many nieces and nephews. Celia was predeceased by her parents Roberto and Celia Peralta, husband Evert Wiss, sister Gladys Whitehouse, brother Roberto Peralta, brother-in-law Mike Whitehouse, and sister-in-law Rosita Peralta. Celia was raised in Lima Peru and came to the United States in 1957. She worked at Travelers Insurance and met her future husband, Evert Wiss at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco in 1961. Evert and Celia were married in 1962 and moved to Pacifica in 1967, where they raised their family and enjoyed life in the coastal town. Celia and Evert were married for 19 years until she lost the love of her life in 1981. Celia worked at Oceana High School from 1980 until her retirement in 1994 as the school registrar.
Celia was a dedicated San Francisco Giants fan, an excellent cook, an avid reader, a skilled seamstress, and treasured spending time with family and friends. Celia had a gift for making all those she knew feel special and was extremely thoughtful. Celia was a devout Catholic and parishioner for over 50 years at the Church of The Good Shepherd in Pacifica.
A rosary will be held Thursday, May 4 th at 6:00pm at Pacifica's Chapel by the Sea. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 5 th at 11:00am at Church of the Good Shepherd in Pacifica.

Can´t believe it´s been almost 2 years without you here. Not a day goes by that we don´t mention your name. Paigey knows you´re one of her guardian angels always watching over her and keeping her safe. Thank you for being the best Abby and leaving us with some of the greatest memories. We love you Abby.

Tia Celita, my sister Melanie´s Godmother. Weren´t we all so lucky to have had a wise one in our midst? How hard it is to let her go.

Two strong intertwined memories are etched in my mind and heart: Tia Celita´s admonition to not come home with wet shoes! (The Frog Pond!) And the smell of her homemade bread coming out of the oven. But no worries when we did come home with soaking wet shoes, she understood that our young legs sometimes couldn´t jump the whole distance across the Frog Pond...a first leap of adventure on any given foggy afternoon... Kathy was "in charge of Lilly," I was "in charge of Andy." We nine were all entrusted to be in charge of each other as we happily made up our own fun in the golf course - and on occasion in the forbidden zone, The Beach.

It never really mattered too much when we arrived to Tia Celita´s house with our wet shoes after hours and hours of playing outside... "Take them off and leave them by the front door" we were instructed. "Come in and let me hug and kiss you hello. Would you like some warm bread?"

I´ll never forget her kindness, her thoughtfulness or her calm demeanor, or of being enveloped by the delicious smell of whatever baked goody was coming out of her oven - another expression of her love for us.

Weren´t we all so lucky to have had a wise one in our midst? How hard it is to let you go, Tia Celita. Thank you for your love.
