Charles Cohler Obituary

Charles Cohler
July 15, 2023
Charles B. ("Tim") Cohler
1940 - July 2023
Suddenly, while on vacation. Devoted husband of Anne; father of Richard and Deborah (Barbara) and to Analisa (Geoff) and Iain (Dustyne); and dearest Poppa to grandchildren Raini and Xavier (deceased 2015). Tim was the son of Irl and Hannah Cohler, and the older brother of William S. Cohler (deceased). Tim and Anne would have celebrated their 40th anniversary on July 30.
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Tim attended Harvard School for Boys and Highland Park High School. He went on to Amherst College and Harvard Law School. After law school, he moved to the Bay Area, where he remained for the rest of his life. Tim began his law practice at Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison; and then co-founded the litigation firm Lasky, Haas, Cohler and Munter. He enjoyed a close circle of life-long friends and colleagues, and was a member of the Olympic Club, the University Club and the Pacific Union Club. Tim was an avid reader and writer, bridge player, traveler, and chef. Always dedicated to scientific inquiry and the advancement of knowledge, Tim donated his body to UCSF for medical research. No funeral services are planned.

We only met Tim and Anne during the last week of his life. It was a joyful week with lots of laughs and several shared meals. We felt as if this was the beginning of a longer friendship. We were fortunate that our paths crossed.

What a terrible shock to read of Tim's passing. I recall my days with the Lasky firm fondly, and always shall. RIP, Tim, and my condolences to his family. I'm specifically keeping Anne, Richard and Debbie, whom I've had the pleasure of meeting, in my thoughts.
