Charles Lutz Obituary

Charles W. Lutz
October 12, 1948 - December 28, 2022
We are saddened to announce the passing of Mr. Charles (Chuck) Lutz on December 28, 2022, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years Irene H. Lutz, brother George S. Lutz, sister-in-law Debbie Lutz, and proud uncle of Cory Lutz and Andrea McClure and great uncle of Kyle McClure. He is also survived by sister-in-law Olga Failla aka "sisterette" and three other sister-in-law's and their spouses, two brother-in-law's, six other nephews and his doting cat, Rusty. Chuck was predeceased by his father Charles D. Lutz and mother Jennie D. Lutz.
Born and raised in San Francisco, CA. Chuck was a Boy Scout and achieved the highest honor possible as an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Westmoor High School in 1966. He then enlisted with the Navel Reserves and received an honorable discharge. Chuck's impeccable attention to detail and strong organizational and people skills were admired which led him into a career in the music industry. As a tour manger and event planner he worked with some of the most famous and talented artists and bands, helping bring their records to platinum and gold. He relished the opportunity to travel the world and work with such talent.
Chuck met his wife Irene while on tour, they married in 1990 and settled in Novato, CA. Chuck's love for camping and the great outdoors, scuba diving, and gardening were shared with his wife. He also loved to do crossword puzzles. This came from working at his first job at the SF Chronicle and continued right to the end of his life, where he still enjoyed completing the most difficult crossword puzzles. Chuck was a member of the Military Vehicle Restoration Society. He had many friends in this community that shared his passion for restoring WWII jeeps and collecting and restoring WWII memorabilia. He earned an honorable mention for going above in beyond as a "Fact Checker" for the book, Ford GPW Restoration Standards 1942-1945.
Words can't adequately convey our thanks to By The Bay Health, Hospice Care for their excellent care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to donate to The American Cancer Society 800-227-2345 www.cancer.org

I only just found out about Chucks passing. I knew he was battling cancer. I fist worked with Chuck in the early nineties on The Gavin Report in SF, and many other events after that. He was great to work with, and will forever hear his voice "smoke em, if you got em." whoever break time came around. He was a good man. I had the pleasure of knowing him, my condolences to his family, he was good man!!

I met Chuck when he came into BofA to deposit a check for Mountain Aire Concert (in the late 1970's). We dated on and off for a couple of years and I was always impressed by how much of a gentleman he was. Wonderful memories. Hugs and comfort to Irene and extended family.

Chuck and I were Jeep buddies since around 2000. We went places together and worked on our toys together and always in a spirit of helpfulness. We commuted to Mikes Military for years and we always had great conversations about the latest fix for this or that and his knowledge of the vehicle was unquestionably one of great study and his answers were always spot on.

Not only did we hang together with the Jeeps and friends, we always laughed at the thought that we probably crossed paths on the Russian River when we were kids having stayed only a couple of blocks apart on River Road as well as having probably seen each other on the "Great" with our buddies and our cars.

I'll miss your great laugh and camaraderie. You were one of a kind with your great stories of your days on the road and there was always a serious side and a humorous one to offset. He was one guy I'll not ever forget. RIP...

Chuck was my friend and a class act. He was well respected in our military vehicle hobby for both his knowledge and passion. He will be truly missed.

God Bless to Irene and the family.

Thank you Chuck, thanks for being a friend, thanks for always being there when needed.
I'll miss our meetings, lively conversations, and, I have to admit, OK, sometimes I was even wrong.
Irene, we all had the greatest respect and admiration for Chuck, we share your grief, and send our love from Down Under.

Like Mike Wright, I knew Chuck from our shared hobby of ex-military vehicle restoration and collecting. His passing is a big loss to our hobby because he was an expert in World War Two jeeps and especially the trailers they pulled. He was one of the most helpful and giving people on a prominent social media chat forum. Rest in Peace Chuck!
