Charles McLaughlin Obituary

Charles McLaughlin
11/23/1925 - 10/10/2025
Charles Elmer McLaughlin (11/23/1925-10/10/2025 )
Charles "Chuck" McLaughlin, born November 23, 1925 in Sacramento, died peacefully on October 10, 2025 in San Francisco, six weeks shy of his 100th birthday.
A saint of a husband and father; selfless, generous, witty, warm and venturesome. Chuck joined the Navy at age 17 and qualified for the Navy's V-12 Officer Training Program, which allowed him to graduate from The University of Colorado in Engineering and ski to his heart's content in the Rockies. He returned
to California to work as a civil engineer for the State, and received his MBA from Stanford University in 1951. While eating lunch in the dining hall at Stanford, he met his future wife, Nancy Lee Bennet. Married in 1951, the couple moved to San Francisco, where Nancy worked for the San Francisco Chronicle, and Chuck at American Standard. Four years after the birth of their first child, the family moved to Woodside. After having two more children, Chuck established his own business, McLaughlin Associates, and the family moved to Portola Valley.
The family regularly attended Christ Church Episcopal, where Chuck taught Sunday school, served as Senior Warden, and later took voice lessons and sang with the choir.
Chuck was an avid reader, weekly tennis player at Alpine Hills Tennis Club, and enjoyed occasional ski trips. He loved traveling, painting, classical music, and of course, Stanford football! Chuck and his wife vacationed in China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. In 2001, they moved to The Sequoias in San Francisco.
Every August, we drove to our grandparent's lakeside cabin in Oregon. Once we were seated in the car, dad would proclaim "Time for another McLaughlin Adventure," a call which we would rally to.
Chuck is survived by his three children, Michael(Dona), Amy(Dan), Peter(Lisa), his grandchildren David, Jess(Paul), Joey(Alexis), Charlie, Kenzie, Tom and his three great grandchildren, Ryan, Walker, and Avery.
