Feb. 16, 1923 - Feb. 9, 2014
Passed away peacefully on the morning of February 9, 2014 at the age of 90. Chuck frequently commented that "the Lord's been very good to me," and indeed his life was blessed. Born on February 16, 1923, he attended Marquette High School in Yakima, and then Gonzaga University on a basketball scholarship. He received his V12 training for the Marine Corps at the University of Washington, and attended Officer's School in Quantico, VA. He then served in Guam and China during World War II. He returned to attend the University of San Francisco where he earned his law degree in 1949 and formed a law partnership on Mission Street. He practiced law in San Francisco, a career he embraced wholeheartedly for 54 years!
Chuck met the love of his life, Marcella Gross, and married her in 1951. As a Captain in the Marine Corps Reserves, he and Marcy moved to Quantico and then Camp Pendleton where he served as an attorney for JAG. He and Marcy raised four daughters and one son in Daly City, California. Chuck served his community as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and President of the Lion's Club.
Chuck loved playing golf and swing dancing with his wife, daughters and willing partners. He was a master of the San Francisco card game, Pedro, and wrote a book that has been used as a guide by many players!
He is survived by his lovely wife, Marcella, his daughters, Sheryl (Kevin), Robyn, Karyn (Paul), and Ellyn (James), his son, Charles M. (Emilia), and ten grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00p.m. at Vaca Hills Chapel in Vacaville on Thursday, February 20, followed by burial with full military honors at 1:30p.m. at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. Reception to follow at the Stuhr residence.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of San Francisco Law School www.usfca.edu/law/giving or 415-422-5623.
