CLAIRE SHAKLEE Obituary

CLAIRE SHAKLEE She passed away in Newport Beach, CA. peacefully in her sleep after a long illness on June 19, 2012. Born in San Francisco on 4/22/26 as Claire Ahern, she was the youngest of six children and had several brothers that were San Francisco firemen. She is survived by her husband Raleigh "Lee" Shaklee of Newport Beach, CA. who co-founded Shaklee Corporation in 1956 with his Father (Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee) and Brother (Forrest Shaklee). She is also survived by three daughters, Laura Hughes of Montecito, CA. Sandie Hughes of Alamo, CA. Karen White of Santa Barbara, CA and nine grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son, Rick Shaklee in 1980. Claire was a loving and generous person who along with her husband Lee were longtime philanthropists to many Bay Area Schools and other organizations that they felt passionate about. Claire loved dancing and enjoyed being an excellent ballroom dancer and along with her husband enjoyed dancing in many grand ballrooms while traveling the world. She and Lee also enjoyed taking long cruises and took many to destinations all over the earth. Claire was an integral part in helping build Shaklee Corporation into the large multi national company that for awhile was listed on the Fortune 500. She took great pride in sharing many stories of the hard and enjoyable work and effort that she and Lee invested in making Shaklee Corporation into a huge success. Shaklee was sold in 1989. Claire also served on many boards for non-profit foundations and academic institutions and loved being involved in helping to make life better for others. Her help in ongoing through numerous charitable trusts and endowments that remain active in Northern and Southern CA.
