Clara Pyun Obituary

Clara T. Pyun
04/19/1939 - 10/27/2024
On October 27, 2024, Clara Tae-Kyung Pyun passed away peacefully with her three children by her bedside. Clara was 85 years old. She is survived by her son, two daughters, and six grandchildren. Clara was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always made sure to enlighten and educate the people she came in contact with throughout her life.
Born on April 19, 1939 in Busan, South Korea, Clara was the youngest daughter of six children. A graduate of the prestigious Seoul National University, Clara became one of the youngest professors to teach at Sacred Heart Women's College in Seoul, South Korea from 1966-1971. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in Social Work from Ehwa Women's University in 1972.
In 1974, Clara immigrated with her husband and two daughters to San Francisco, California where her son was later born. San Francisco became her permanent home after discovering it through a cross-country trip she took from Boston to San Francisco in 1972. Clara had just finished a summer course of studies on Behavioral Sciences at Harvard University and wanted to tour the United States before heading home to South Korea. She fell in love with San Francisco the moment she set foot in the city.
Clara embraced everything that San Francisco had to offer. She was the owner of Manx Hotel's Gift Shop on Powell Street, a featured writer for the Korea Times, an avid San Francisco historian, and a devoted member of St. Michael's Korean Catholic Church.
Clara will always be remembered as a loving and hard-working woman who always wanted the best for her family. She took great pleasure in continuing her education throughout her life by always travelling to new countries, exploring new cities, and studying the history of the world. Despite all of her accomplishments, Clara remained humble during her lifetime and as a result, only wished for a small, private ceremony to be held at Cypress Lawn's Noble Chapel surrounded by her family.
