Clare Coffey Obituary

Clare Frances Oliverio Coffey
May 19, 1927 - January 8, 2023
Clare Frances Oliverio Coffey passed away in Oakland, California, on January 8, at the age of 95.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 19, 1927, Clare was the oldest child of the late Mary Pisano and Dominick Oliverio. She was predeceased by her husband Edward P. Coffey and siblings Fran Ross and John Oliverio. She is survived by daughters Lisa Coffey Mahoney (Robert) and Sheila Coffey Kilty (Kevin), grandchildren Daniel and Kate Mahoney and Shannon and Jenna Kilty, her sister, Marie Piepho, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
Clare graduated from St. Anthony High School in Detroit in 1945, where she played basketball, and went to the University of Detroit for one year before her family moved to Albany, California. She earned a bachelor's degree in business from U.C. Berkeley and had a long, distinguished career in banking when many felt women weren't capable of holding management positions. She worked at the Bank of Berkeley, the Bank of Trade in San Francisco's Chinatown and Golden Gate Financial Bank before joining Alameda First National Bank at its inception in 1964 and retiring as senior vice president/manager of the bank's dealer services division in 1997. She served on the boards of many professional organizations during that time, and was active in the Alameda Soroptimists group.
Clare and Ed traveled extensively during their retirement years, always returning home with interesting stories about their adventures. Never one for typical retirement activities, Clare took up Tai Chi late in life. She enjoyed rooting for the Golden State Warriors, attending the sporting activities of her grandchildren, and shopping. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and generosity.
A celebration of Clare's life will be held on March 21, beginning at 10 a.m., at Corpus Christi Church, 322 St. James Dr., Piedmont.

I have the most wonderful memories of Aunt Clare. Always so loving, never saying anything negative about anyone. She always had a refrigerator full of food and whenever I visited her I never left hungry even if I was full when I got there. plenty of snacks lots of chocolate and always had an interested in my life. She will truly be missed, but never far from my heart. Rest in peace, Aunt Clare. I´ll catch you on the other side of the rainbow.
