Colleen Skewes-Cox Obituary

Colleen Juhl Skewes-Cox

December 1, 1956 - June 14, 2018

Colleen Juhl Skewes-Cox died in her San Francisco home on June 14th, having lived a life full of love, family, and adventure.

Colleen was born in San Francisco to Ralph and Claudia Juhl. She grew up in Pleasanton and attended Anna Head School for Girls, where she made life-long friends.

She continued on to the University of California, Berkeley, where she graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology and met the love of her life, Peter Skewes-Cox. They were married on May 20th, 1978, and raised five children together over 40 years of marriage.

Colleen dedicated her life to children. She was a pre-school teacher for over 30 years at the Episcopal Church of Saint Mary the Virgin and Calvary Presbyterian Church Nursery School. After Peter's retirement in 2015, they moved from San Francisco to their home in Kingsbury, Nevada, and spent time at their home in Broagerland, Denmark.

Colleen was a world-traveler, visiting her seventh continent, Antarctica, this past January. To mark their 40th wedding anniversary this spring, she and Peter traveled to Peru, Chile, Hawaii, Denmark, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Uganda.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Peter; their five children, Peter Jr. (Nancy), Stina (Kerry), Andrew, William, and Elizabeth; and four grandchildren, Peter III, Maya, Daniel, and Willa. She is also survived by her mother Claudia, sister Carol, and brother David. She was preceded in death by her father Ralph, and her in-laws, Martin and Betsy.

She loved her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Nancy Skewes-Cox, and Brian Moore and Edith Skewes-Cox; her seven nieces and nephews; and numerous godchildren.

A service will be held at the Episcopal Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, 2325 Union Street, San Francisco on Wednesday, June 27th at 2:00 p.m., and will be followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, a one-time memorial donation may be made in Colleen's name for distribution by the church to charities serving children and families in San Francisco. A gift may be made by sending a check to the church or visiting https://smvsf.org/donation/.

She is

one of my cousins, but also a friend. Because we lived a few blocks

from each other, we did a lot of outings together. My sincerest

I am overwhelmed with grief and utterly heartbroken to hear of this loss. She would say of Spencer at Calvary that he would go off and talk to the angels. Now they are both angels.
To the whole Skewes-Cox family I am so, so very sorry for your loss.
