Daniel Dowd Obituary

Daniel Joseph Dowd
March 8, 1944 - October 8, 2022
"Danny/Danny Boy" Dowd was a devoted Dad, Grandpa, SF Giants and Warriors fan, and loyal member of the Raider Nation.
Danny was born and raised in San Francisco to Frank Dowd and Dora Dowd (Castelli). He grew up in West Portal, loved sports, and ran track for Riordan Hight School. Although he settled down, making new roots nearby in Pacifica to raise his family, Danny remained a mailman in the Sunset District for more than 45 years. He loved walking around the city and talking to everyone on his route. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. He was open minded, accepting, and liked people from all walks of life. He met so many people on his mail route and got so much joy talking to them and hearing their stories. He truly was one of a kind!
His favorite past time activities were attending SF Giants games, from their first arrival to SF in 1958 to finally getting to see them win a world series in 2010. As a season ticket holder, he watched the Oakland Raiders lose, "rain or shine," and he did not miss a game. This was our dad as a person, devoted, consistent and loyal. If there was one word to describe Danny it would be "Loyal" but to be fair…nobody is as more loyal than a Raiders fan.
Upon retirement from the Post Office, he went into full-time grandpa mode. He loved nothing more than being a grandpa and boy was he good at this role! Growing up, his Nonna, who was born in Italy, lived with him and his family and she was one of the biggest influences in his life. Her impact on him growing up is what inspired and influenced him to be the most caring, amazing and hands on grandpa. He became a live-in grandpa and enjoyed nothing more than spending everyday with his grandchildren. Just like the Italian proverb says- "If nothing is going well call your grand[father]." Grandpa always said "yes!" He loved his grandchildren more than anything in the world!
Danny was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Dora Dowd, and sister Diane Dowd.
Danny is survived by his children Niles Rosenberg, Noel Dowd, Natalie Abal (Marcelo), Matt Dowd (Lai), and his grandchildren Lucas Abal, Valentina Abal, Leo Abal, and Raelyn Dowd.
To close this with a quote from one of his favorite movies, "Go ahead, make my day"-Harry Callahan (Dirty Harry).
Danny loved to socialize and talk to everyone. For those that you knew him, you are welcome to join his family and friends to celebrate his life. We know that would "make his day" before we send him off. We will honor him by wearing favorite sport teams, local bands from the 60's, or SF clothing.
Services will be held in his honor on Wednesday, October 19th 2022 starting with the burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma at 10:00am followed by a Service at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave. in Daly City at 11:00am.

My condolences to Danny's family.
I grew up across the street from Danny and my wife lived two doors down. I was one of the younger boys on the block and Danny always looked out for me and made sure I got some playing time in during balls games on 14th Avenue. He taught me to drive a stick in his GTO - I may have been the only other one to ever drive that car.
After my wife and I were married we had a flat at 39th & Irving, Danny was our mailman and always walked up two flights to hand deliver the mail to my wife. He was a wonder person, I'm glad I knew him.
