Daniel Ries Obituary

Daniel Ries
June 15, 1950 - March 2, 2021
Daniel Ries, age 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, in his home in Clayton, CA surrounded by his family. He left behind his loving wife of 48 years, Christine, his three daughters, Jeannine (Sean), Amy (Rob) and Jennifer. He will be greatly missed by his four adoring grandchildren, Dominic, Zachary, Megan, and Lindsey – they were the light of his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy, Gail and Tammy and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was born on June 15, 1950, in San Francisco, CA. He attended Corpus Christi Elementary School where he met the love of his life, Chris. After attending Balboa High School he served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He and Chris married in 1972, and after completion of his service, they purchased their first home in Daly City and started their family.

Dan began his lifelong career with PG&E in 1972 "digging ditches" in the streets of San Francisco. He then became a welder, continued on to become the Superintendent of San Mateo County, and finally finished his career as the Compliance Manager for San Francisco. After much debate, he finally retired in 2014 which allowed him to spend more time with his family and travel with Chris.

In 2018, after much persuasion from their three daughters and grandchildren, Dan and Chris decided to leave their beloved "632" and move to the East Bay where their entire family was located. It was the best move they ever made. Dan enjoyed his park-like backyard where he and Chris proudly hosted countless BBQ's, swim days and good old-fashioned family fun. His family was the most important thing in his life - it is what fueled him. He will be missed by all and will be in our hearts forever. #TeamChaos4ever

Dan was my very first friend. My oldest, best, and truest friend. There was never a fight or argument between us. I was his little brother. He always looked out for me with his other friends, and made sure they were kind. I spent so many days basking in his friendship. Always so funny and witty. And he never changed. He was always cool. And always kind.

It was my absolute pleasure to work with Dan Ries for so many years at PG&E. Always a gentleman and a fine Supervisor to my crew and me even during stressful storm related outages.
It is always so sad to see someone we cared about passing and the sorrow that it brings to the family and friends he had in life. As a fellow San Francisco native, born in the same year as Dan, fellow Veteran and career utility worker, it holds some very favorable working memories with this fine man. I will miss those days we worked together and the trust we had in each other made the work situations all the more easier to accomplish. He will always be known as a dedicated management employee who looked out for the interests of his fellow man.

My best wishes to family and friends in the loss of Dan but may we always remember the fond memories we have of him with joy and gratitude.

Prayers and condolences to the Ries family. Another fellow PGE’er goes to a heavenly place. Dan and I shared many holes together as welders and many good times after that. May he rest in peace as he sleeps with angels.

I love you, my sweet brother and hero. Please know you will always be close to my heart and I will continue to look to you for your sage advice. Just whisper it into my ear and I will hear you. I know you will be entertaining everyone in heaven with your humor! Until we are together again, stay warm and safe from pain in God’s loving arms.

Dan was an older brother to me. I loved spending time with him. He was always kind to me, and made me feel welcome and included. He was a wonderful athlete. I thought I was fast until he smoked me one day running back from Elim Grove to the Boyle's place. Dan turned me on to the Beach Boys, when they were still singing songs about hotrods. The days we spent with the Ries family, at Cazi, Burney Falls, Blackberry Farm were the most memorable of my young life. Always fun. Always laughter. Always love. Dan, his Mom Lavonne, and his Dad Jack will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

Rich and I were saddened to hear of Dan’s passing. When we were all together as young families we enjoyed, events, picnics and hard work as members of OLM.
Dan and Chris you were wonderful loving parents and you both left us a lasting impression of “good” people.

Our condolences to the entire Ries Family. I worked with Dan during our careers at PG&E. The most memorable was playing softball with Dan and going for beers and pizza after whether we won or lost. May he rest in peace.

Our condolences to the Ries family. Marie and I took numerous trips to Mexico and Hawaii, thanks to Charlie and Margie Krystofiak, along with Christine and Danny. Danny always won Mr. Congeniality on those trips and was just a pleasure to be around. He will certainly be missed. Rest in Peace.
